Different methods of feeding!
Just curious how everyone here feeds their boas. Seperate tank? Tongs? out in the open? etc etc.... I feed mine in a large rubbermaid container, but she has such an aggressive feeding repsonse that i have to be very careful......

I feed Ruby in her cage. I just hold the rat usually and she takes it right from my fingers. No strike at all. The little guy was fed live before I got him so he constricts usually. Last time i fed him he didn't even constrict. I was amazed. I started just putting the rat in Ruby's cage on a news paper and she just comes up and takes it. No constriction, She just comes up and starts swallowing it

just tonight i got my guys off live, or i took a step in that direction, anyway i use seperate enclosures (cardboard boxes) for them to feed in, kind of disassociates them with the fact that hand=feeding time, heres a pic... as you can see you cant keep the same one too long; gets messy- what do you do?

They say that feeding in the enclosure makes snakes more aggresive but I don't see that. I can reach in Ruby's cage at any time and once she flicks her tounge and smells my hand, she won't strike. She is a sweet heart. I never had problems with feeding in the cage

Look at the other thread he did. We went over this already. After getting them off of live(big step), now we can work with a bigger food size

I agree with you on that too. If you are taking good care of your boa, you are opening up the enclosure to handle, change water, mist etc etc. With all those openings on the enclosure, the one time you open it to feed, the snake isn't think that it's feeding time everytime you open.

yep sounds like a plan, I'd like to say my snakes are that way, but i can tell when the cage opens somewhere in the back of their minds is lurking FEEDING TIME, then again when isnt that thought lurking in the back of any animals mind lol, its always in mine

I feed all of mine in thier enclosures. Mind You, I use paper substrate, so it's pretty safe. I don't buy the whole cage aggressiveness association with feeding in the cage thing. I'm in there too often for water changes, handling cleaning duties etc., therefore I have no conditioning issues with feeding in the enclosure. If anything, It's kind of nice not to have to worry about an association with feeding time, everytime I remove them and place them in a tub while I clean out the enclosures. This is especially the case when You have a few bigger ones in the collection. I find it more dangerous to the keeper to feed the larger ones in tubs.
