Boa Rack Systems
Hi,
I dont want to sound daft or anything, but i asked on another forum and got a load of grief like I should know better... but I was trying to find out about keeping a BCI in a rack system.
I already have a rack system being built for my Royal Pythons, and wondered if a BCI would be at home in the same rack system. Does anyone else keep Boa's in a Rack system? My tubs are 3ft x 18" and 10" high. Would I be able to keep a BCC in this? And at what size would the snake need to be upgraded to a larger tub?
Just starting the research now... so depending on the answers I get on this thread will depend on whether or not i will keep looking.
Thanks!

We keep all of our young BCCs in a rack system and they are doing great. Young BCCs thrive in a rack system for several reasons. First, a rack retains more humidity than an open top cage. You never have to mist. Second, it gives them plenty of privacy. Suriname BCCs stress very easy when they are young. A rack eliminates a potential source of stress for them. Third, they do better when they are young in smaller cages like a rack. I recommend a sweater box rack system for young BCCs. Make sure to controll the temps.

If I have 3ft tubs though.... what size would you suggest an upgrade?

Boas can stay in 3ft tubs until 5ft long, max. A general rule of thumb is the boa should be no longer than 2x longer than the tub. However, in a 3ft x 18in tub, they have less space across than a general 2ft that larger plastic cages usually offer.
Sorry if all that is confusing, but your 3ft tubs can hold a 5ft boa. At that point, I'd say it's pretty crucial to move them to a large cage.

The Boaphileplastics site should provide some ideas of when to upsize.
