Acrantophis Dumerili Vs Boa Constrictor Imperator
ok, my decision is made, its gonna be between these 2
and ive done as much reading as i can on this site, and ive done several google searches on both of these, but they all seem to be scientific type descriptions, and i read some that were so far off from others, like the size, and temp requirements were no where close to some of the others, as well as the suggested enclosure size, so once again, im coming to the people of RTB
that own or have knowledge of either 2 of these seemingly great snakes
any insight, or any knowledge or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, im just looking for a few things that will help me make my mind up and pick one over the other, unless i somehow just puff my chest up and get one of both lol
thanks in advance guys!!

I already own an RTB and am going to look at /collect a hatchling dumeril tomorrow, I am planning on eventually housing it in a 4.5W x 2D x 1.5H' enclosure as the potential maximum size is less than my RTB especially as I am specifically going for a male. My RTB is housed in a 6L x 2D x 2h' enclosure but depending were / who you look talk to this can be a lot smaller. I generally take a consensus of the available information and use it as a rough guide to start with. If the snake stays permanently at the hot end then its probably not hot enough at the hot end or too cold at the cool end or vice versa if the snake permananently stays at the cool end, and it just a matter of tweaking. Although everyone bands temperature ranges around they are usually only guidelines as all snakes are individual like people some like to be warmer that others, etc.
Cheers
Nick

They are really similar to me. The dums tend to be a wee bit smaller, and a little more pricey.. Which pattern do you like better? This is just a preference thing on these 2 animals, both are great. I do not own a dum though, so maybe someone owns both and can give you temperment differences. Good luck and when in doubt flip a coin, lol.

good choice.
if your getting them as babies, i would get the dumeril first as they grow slower than bci's.

I would roll the the BCI personally. The one I have is growing super fast though and I don't even powerfeed. I think about each shed she grows 5 or 6 inches lol but then again some grow alot slower. You said earlier than you wanted no bigger than 6 feet... So give a foot or two isn't going to hurt. BCI bro!!

Can't go wrong with a BCI. For the most part great temperment, great feeders, friendly, and getting a male boa from a "dwarf" locality and you are looking at 4-5' max. A female hogg shouldn't even get over 6' from what I know.

This is wrong.
They are heavier snakes than BCIs, and generally will end up weighing more at full size than most BCIs will. both of my Dums weigh more than most of my BCIs that were born around the same time. Either one is as good as each other, but they will grow almost the same. My Dums are in the same rack as my Redtails and they have the same temps and humidity levels as the redtails do, too. They eat the same thing, and same size rat as the redtails do that born around the same time. The sneak attack thing is not very cool to me, because this is the only timeS I have been bitten by them, which is why they are both on newspaper now. Good luck!
