Taking Boas outside
I have always heard that there is no dumb question.. so here goes..... I see alot of pictures with the snakes outside. Our weather here in Illinois has been in the upper 70-low 80's for the past few days. Is this warm enough to take the snakes outside and let them explore in the grass for awhile?? How long can they safely stay out? Can you tell I haven't had snakes for very long???? I just don't want to do anything to cause harm to my guys. Thanks for putting up with questions from newer snake owners. I have learned alot reading posts on this forum and i have appreciated everyones advice when i have asked for it. Since the weather has warmed up I am finallly going to be getting my baby boa on tuesday. I can hardly wait to see him!!!! I will post pictures once he is here and settled in.

In the 70s to 80s is just fine to take them outside, in my opinion... preferably when the sun is shining, but that's just me...

I get real nervous taking my snakes outside around here. There are always hawks or turkey vultures flying around. Does anyone have any idea if they would chance flying down with me right there?

I've had Mocking Birds and Robins fly in at times.

The turkey vultures are huge. They could probably take off with my big boy with no problem.

Just dont let it get out of your arms reach..
My friend got a Yorkshire Terrier...10# dog and a owl got it broad daylight right in front of her! Crazy
Also another piece of advice..I love to take my snakes out..But please make sure there are no laws about owning snakes before you do, and make sure you are being responsible with your animal...
Dont use it to chase down people who are scared of snakes, no matter how much fun it is to watch them wet themselves...
Seriously...Just be careful..Sometimes people seriously overreact when they see snakes in public and it could cause you problems

I/when I take my boas out, I do it in the back yard, and don't let them move out of my reach. Make sure if you set him down in the grass that there are no pesticides or fertilizers being used.
Honestly, the temperature thing shouldn't be a problem at all. I'm not sure why so many people object, but as long as you've hit 70, it's not like you're going to leave your boas out there... Temperatures fluxuate in "nature" and being outside for 10 mintues isn't going to hurt them at all.

my temps have been in the 70's-80's all week and ive taken mine out alot. when its nice outside i try to take them out as much as i can. They love the sun and just to roam a bit. I do have to make them all take turns as i cant watch 5 roam in all different directions at the same time. lol. Just like everyone already said...be responsible and watch them.

My wife and I live in a townhome and don't have a yard. We love to take our animals to the park close by.
We have two hedgehogs that we take out there pretty often. Those animals get all kinds of attention. Everyone from little kids to the elderly wants to know what they are, where they can get one and if they can pet them!
Occasionlly, I will bring my RTB to the park (never along with the hegdies). I'm actually surprised how much good attention my RTB gets as well. Not nearly as much as the hedgies do, but there are always a few people that come by and watch her slithering in the grass. Lots of people have questions too. Out of the 8-10 times I have brought her to the park, only once did I get a negative remark. It was from an elderly woman who basically told me I was crazy for bringing such a dangerous wild animal to a public park with children near by. She wasn't mean about it, but certainly didn't have any reservations about speaking her mind... all while keeping her distance of about 20 yards.
