Substrate
Tomorrow we are picking up a rescue female rtb. We already have word that she is on sand for a substrate. We use cypress for all of our snakes. What does everyone here use for their substrate? The idea of sand puzzles me.

Sand is a terrible idea. If you want anything to make the humidity take a dive, or make it literally impossible to stay humid in there, use sand.

One thing is for sure .... shes going to be doing much better once she gets here. The sand is going to go immediately. I know of some pet stores that use gravel for their snakes but ive never heard of using sand for bps or rtbs. expensive or not, I like cypress. Might prove to be a bit too costly to keep an 80 gallon aquarium with cypress as bedding though.
The owner has assured me she is feeding live jubo rats on a weekly basis. Defiately have to do something about that.

Sand is a terrible idea..i know first hand. My very first boa....i was instructed that sand would be fine....no my dismay it killed my first boa. I never fed in the enclosure but it still got some inside him and apperantly impacted insdie and killed my new baby. I was torn apart.
Since then ive always used cypress mulch....it hold the humidity great and it looks good too. My and the wife are into making the tanks look good too.
