I don't really see it as a problem. That may just mean your snake is comfortable just sitting out. Just keep the hides available and if he/she needs them I'm sure he/she will use them.
My hog spends most of his time out in the open, only hides once in a while.

yeah i see it as a plus... you get to see you're snake more often than some of us do.... you're snake is just comfortable...
that said make sure the temps under the hides aren't too extreme... sometime the hides insulate heat from UTH too well.....

That is what I was going to suggest. Always check temps inside of hide. Before I knew this I was measuring outside of my hide at 88 basking and then I measured inside my hide to see why she was never in there and the heat was 118!!!!!!! YIKES, no wonder. Now I keep her hide more towards the middle and she has a cool hide and a log climb on the hot so she has many different temperatures to be able to choose from. Live, learn and fix the problem, I'm always careful after learning that.

if the temps are good make sure the hide is appropriately sized for your snake... they like to feel the hide touching them when in it.... too big and some snake just don;t use them

I agree with Heidi. My boa never sat in his warm hides until I probed the GROUND, realizing it was about 99F. I then lowered it to about 91 (with my UTH on extra low), and he sat in it more.

I actually use 5 hides all with a few degrees of separation, and he'll use them all.
