Heheh... whoops!
My boa about scared me to death last night. I went to feed him last night... so I got the rat thawed... kept it in the bag so it'd hit him with a strong scent when I put it in his cool hide box (which is how he normally eats). I open the box... it's empty!
Crap..
I look under his warm hide.. nothing. Look under all the newspaper only to figure out that he had escaped! Oh man I was pretty nervous and couldn't help but think the worst!
So I figured - OK... he's probably not outside the room, since my girlfriend came home a few hours earlier and assured the doors were shut when she left. We thought he's more than likely under a bed or in our closet or something like that. So I frantically tell everyone to stop what they are doing - don't step on any blankets or piles of clothes, and don't move any big furniture, at risk of smooshing him on accident.
Frantically, everyone searched the room. My girlfreind started in the closet while I started around the computer, on opposite ends of the room. I found nothing for a good 10 or 15 minutes. I continued searching in the bed - in old shoe boxes... pretty much everywhere.
Finally, we found him... and that's the funny part.
We bought this stupid fake tree for him that he LOVES to sit in or on top of, but we never put it inside his tank because it was too big and bulky. Whenever we put him remotely close to it he'll stretch ALL the way out to get into the tree, at any cost. My girlfriend lifts up the tree (it also has a hide for the base of the tree)... and he's just sitting in there as calm as ever.
This is the tree (I bet it looks familiar):
The hilarious part about it is that as much as he loved that tree, we had broken it a few times from knocking it off our little movie-holder furniture thing. We had fixed it a few weeks back and moved it completely accross the room from his tank and from it's previous position, so it wouldn't get knocked from it's place and broken again.
So, without anybody noticing he escaped through this really small hole that I used to run a power cord into for one of those waterfalls (yeah, he hated that thing), he got completely across the room and actually rememered where that stupid tree was, after only being there a few times! He got inside and probably sat there for a couple of hours... probably enjoying himself because he loves that tree.
He's a weirdo... a smart weirdo, that is. I was surprised he remembered where the tree was and could actually climb up the nightstand just to get inside it. I guess that's my fault for thinking he couldn't get out of that hole. In any case we patched it up and he is safe now. He gave us a good scare but we were relieved to know that if he ever gets misplaced - he'll always go back to his favorite spot.
Stupid tree!... heheheheh.

This happened to us and to this day we have no idea how Casey escaped, but she did never the less. We also found her in a large ficus tree that we have right next to her cage. She must have been eying it and planning her escape for months. Lil' buggers. They are so funny but the panic they cause sure isn't.

lol, the last escape I had to deal with was with my 8ftr... some one forgot to latch her door fully and she got it open. It was about 6am when I walked by the room where she is. I had to stop, take a few steps back and look again. Talk about freaking out. Its not every day you have to go running around the house and make sure all the cats are accounted for.
Everything was ok, she was hiding under the desk, but very ticked we found her. VERY TICKED One of the good things about an 8ft snake, there are only so many places they can hide

My story doesn't involve a snake, but a mouse... It was time for Hef to eat and so my husband and I went and bought him two mice (He's at a very akward size right now...I know it sounds odd). Anyway, this was on Xmas eve, so we decided to stop by the mall and see what was going on afterwards. When we get back out to our truck, I noticed a hole in the carboard mouse-holder-thingy. However, since one of the mice only had its head out, I wasn't really worried. After stopping by a sports store, Tim asked if both mice were, in fact, in there. Well...they weren't. At this point I was a little worried since there are an infinite amount of places for a mouse to hide in an Avalanche. Plus, I knew that I would get shot if mouse chewed on the leather in Tim's truck.
We get home, and I bring out my Weims (one of which LOVES mice) hoping they would be of service. Nope, it was like dealing with a three year old in Toys R Us...she just wanted the one that was now in a plastic holding cage. Finally, after 15 min. we found the thing. Funniest part is that Tim REFUSED to touch it. (He's also afraid of snakes ) Yeah, Hef ate that one first.
It's funny to hear of other escape stories. Luckily, I don't have a snake one yet. Well, there was one time when I was like ten and my 'caught' rat snake got out...never did find it. Keep the stories coming, they are great for a chuckle.

Ok heres one for your reading pleasure. I had my biggest cornsnake over at my neighbors house (she is also my bestfriend) and when ever i take one of my snakes over there I bring one of my spare tanks an lids in case I need to set him in there for a bathroom break or what not. In this case, I had my spare 10g and the lid that went with it had a little sliding hatch at the top that moves quite easily and has a simple little latch to lock it.
So a few hours later I went over to my house for a snack after asking her to be sure he didnt escape. I come back and my friend is of course engrossed in the movie we had been watching, so I go to get the poor fella out from the news paper only to find that hes GONE!! I must have forgotten to lock the lid when I had put him in there.
Panic!! My friends place had boxes EVERYWHERE as she has just moved in, and needless to say it was not a very safe place. So after looking everywhere we could I went home, got a UTH and a F/T mouse and put the mouse in the tank near the UTH and walked to the minute market for some caffine. To my great delight he was sitting there on the pad, mouse still there looking all smug as can be when we got back. Poor guy gave me a scare. And I threw that lid away and got a new one :P
