Ya he can reach but the boa may not like the water being that deep.

Well if the dish isn't like a pool then it should be fine
If its 4" tall and like 10" by 10" for example that may be too large

Heck no, it isn't too large. Most of mine love to soak at one time or another and a big water bowl is a blessing since it can be filled only partially and then not overflow from the displacement when they climb in. It is also good because they won't be tipping it over either. My big boas are always tipping over their water dishes and flooding their cage. Makes me crazy!

Why not just keep it for when he gets bigger?

LOL, I have never in 30 years heard of a snake not drinking becase the water dish was too big around. They mostly drink at night when you are sleeping any way. So how do you know that the snake is scared of the dish? Did you try to put them into it or something? THat might make them freak out, but if left alone they will use whatever there is in the cage. They just have to get used to it just like any other thing that you add to their cage.

Indeed. Besides, not many neonate boas will go soaking anyway. I probably wouldn't worry about it unless you can't put a hide where the bowl is taking up space...

you know, ive always belived, that you offer a bowl that a snake can completely submerge itself in, my snake is a little over a year, and not only have i NEVER seem him drink from the bowl [he only drinks when i spray] and ive NEVER seen him get into it. i have a huge bowl in there anyway. hes got pleanty of hides, and maybe he just does it at 3 in the morning when im not watching him. but im not taking it out, because i fought long and hard for the use of that bowl for my snake [sorry dogs] so hes gonna use it! and hes gonna like it!

lol I guess thats true. They will use it if they need it. I just added a huge bowl in mine a week ago and I caught her in it 1 time already. Of course they use it at times to get water but I never seen mine all but 1 time

I guess that since I work from home and am in and out of the snake building from around 6am to 2-3am the next day every day, I see them drink all the time. I was just out cleaning some cages and my big male burm was getting a drink and so were 2 of my adult female boas. But I usually catch them at the bowl around 1 or 2am drinking. So I can understand why those of you with regular 9-5 jobs or school don't ever see yours drinking.
