Making A humid Hide!!! Some Pics

Here is how I make a humid Hide, SImple But Effective

First I take a metal object like a bbq skewer.
Then I heat it up till a 3-4 is blazing orange
I start the hole where I want it and make a circle with it. Usually you will have to heat the skewer up 2-3 times to get the corect hole size melted all the way through.
I then place the moss or paper towels and wet them down. It is a good idea to ring the extra water out a bit. The put the lid on and but it in a warm area of the cage. Not hot but a 85-87 degree are works good. I use 1 all the time since the humidity isn't particularly as high as I need it.
The moss I used there is not very good. I suggest the gardening moss you get from Home Depot or Lowes since it hold moisture a bit better and its much cheaper.

nice porky-

I just made one today too. I'll take pictures- how tight should you pack the moss? I did it rather compact moss goes all the way to the top of the container but its loose enough for the snake to get through- I did it mainly because he is having trouble getting some excesss shed off... it's been stuck and i've been soaking him and having him crawl through firmly gripped towels and what not... still having some trouble if this doesn't work I may have to make my first vet trip.

I just use a half inch or so. The humidity in there is about 90% so that helps alot. Since I have had my boa, she has yet to shed in 1 piece sheds until I made one of these. I will make another one for otherside of the cage to help with the humidity.

Hey Pork- Good job on the hide but....you want the hide to be moist, not wet. Squeeze some of that water out so you boa isn't laying in water/wet moss all the time. You don't want to have to deal with scale rot too. It would be better to wait and see just HOW this hide raises the humidity first before adding another one so quickly. Do you have the top of the tank covered so the humidity can't escape so fast?

I did ring it out a bit before I put the lid on. The humdity in the cage is about 30-37% without misting so I may add another one in to help raise this. I have posted pics of my setup in general in other fourms and I don't think it is working to bad for me. I have been working on the temps lately and have been perfecting them to her likings over the past week
