My Snake eating! Lots of pics!

I just got her about 4 days ago... I wanted to get her on the same day eating patterns.. so every saturday... This is my first snake, and my first time feeding.. at first she showed no signs of wanting to eat it.. so i put the heat lamp on it for a little bit longer and warmed it up... then put it back into the shoe box with her.. and about 2 mins after i put it in, she took it down.. heres the pics!

All oppions, comments, whatever about the snake, feeding habbits welcome... Open to all advice as this is the first snake i've owned.. Also, i was told its just a basic columbian boa, Dont know if anyone can tell from the pics?

Nice snake. Good first meal but she could take a larger rat next time. Perfect size for a first feeding and a few more but be prepared to up her to fuzzies in the next 3 or so feedings. Congrats and we look forward to latching her grow.

A weanling. The genral rule is 1-1.5# the girth of their WIDEST part. That looked from the pics to be maybe a bit less than 1 times the girth. She could probably take a weaned rat with no problems at all. Just make sure you keep the temps warm and wait 1-2 days after feeding to handle her and you should be just fine. Here is mine with a small rat, that day I fed 2 of the smallest rats so they are a bit smaller than her girth

Some times they get stressed, a few times a week is about all I do, you love handling her now but the frequentcy you hold her will decrease the more animals you get. Mine is just over 3' now but the rule of 1-1.5 times the girth applies to all boas and most snakes in general.

I got the snake, 2 dwarf hampsters and a chamelon.. so i got a mini zoo thing goin on.. im kinda surprized with how well tempered my snake is, it shows no agressiveness towards me.. it moves around and does its thing when i hold it..

Most boas are as calm as can be, actually I have never seen an agressive boa in my life. So easy going and lovable.

That snake is nowhere near ready for a weanling. Pinks are fine but...maybe a slightly larger pinky next time. Rats don't grow in set steps. A day old pink is a good bit smaller than a 5-6 day old pink but they are still both pinks. The next size that is not a pink is a fuzzy. Fuzzies may be a bit large though for now and like pinks and every other stage of development, they come in varying sizes too.

1 rule, NEVER LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE AT THE PET STORES!!! That was a pink, the next size up is a fuzzie but I would find one that is still pink but just starting to get fur. I will go snap a pic of the fuzzie rats so you know basically what to look out for. If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for that "rat pup"? You may have just gotten ripped off.

Heres some pics of fuzzies and pink rats. I don't have a bag of fuzzied open so I just took a pic of them in the bag. I figured since you had a cd in one of the pics the one with the cd may hep. Those are fuzzy rats, the more hairy one would be too big but the smaller one you see in the pics may be more appropriatly sized. Also, www.rodentpro.com is a great source for frozen rats and mice and hass pics showing sizes of all the rats. the 1st pic posted is of a smaller fuzzy rat, the 2nd one if a larger fuzzie rat and the 3rd is of a small-medium pinkie rat
