What are some food items that are fatty?
When I look at Rocky and compare him to most other BCI's I find that he's quite skinny, I don't want to power feed the poor dude, but would like to get him fatter, any suggestions? or do you think if I feed him one med. he'll fill out eventually?
I don't care to much that he's skinny more so worried that he might be a few ounces or grams under weight.

I'm not sure that you should really worry about making a snake fat. It's probably just genetics that he's a little thinner, but I wouldn't want to get him to be considered overweight if he's at least at normal or close to normal weight. It'd seem kinda unhealthy to me.

it isnt good to feed them fatty prey. my smaller snakes get gerbils or hamsters on holidays which are also fatty. but onl;y on holidays. how old is your snake and how often do you feed him. if he is under a year old feed him once a week and if over a year old every 10-14 days.

Rockys close to the three ft range and since I got him as a rescue from petco I am unsure of his age exactly I feed him a medium rat around once a week.
I didn't want to get him on something fatty and keep him on it, just give him a treat of something fatty every two-three feedings.

bad thing about that is sometimes it is real hard to get them eating rats again. that stuff is like candy to them and sometimes it is pure heck to get them to switch back.

I used to feed Rocky gerbils and he went to rats with no problem.... do you think that if I start to feed him gerbils even though switching from gerbils to rats was no problem, one might occur?

if your really concerned your best bet is to keep him feeding on what you know he will eat and just shorten the time frame between feedings or up the prey size if possible. If your feeding every 7-10 days make it a point to feed on the 7 day mark or a slightly shorter time period.

i would definately not feed a 3 ft boa sooner than 7 days and 10 days is a nice amount of time to wait.i used to feed my boas every 7 days and they are all 6 ft and over.i have big and heavy boas because of it that only get fed small meals every 14 days.they have became trimmer(with excersize).its better to be alittle smaller than to heavy.

This person is saying his animal is visable thin and is concerned. Smaller boas in the proper environment should be able to handle an apropriately sized meal every week or so. That isn't to say he couldn't space it out once it has gained some girth, and return to a longer time period. I was suggesting feeding sooner than 7 days I said if he is feeding every 7-10 days make it a point to feed on the 7th day rather guestimating between 7-10 days.
