What type of snake?
I have had balboa, a baby rosy boa for only two weeks and I am thinking about getting another one!!!! I need some help, since I don't know near enough about adult sizes of snakes. I am thinking about something that would reach no more than about 4 - 41/2 feet grown. One that stays friendly...I do have a grand daughter and another one on the way. I have 4 cats and IF by chance the snake got loose, I don't want them to be dinner for it. I plan on keeping it in a 55 or 75 gallon aquarium. I would like to know what my choices are so I can do some research on them before I decide.
Pros and cons would be great!! Thanks for your opinons!!!! Connie

By balboa... do you possibly mean ball python? If not... that sounds like your best option, choose a ball python. But please, do read the caresheet here on RTB first .

Balboa is the name of her pet rosy boa. A ball python is an excellent choice. Make sure you get a captive bred one that has already been feeding well, I suggest straight from a reliable breeder, not a petshop. Also if I remember right Balboa is a mexican rosy... if you really like the rosy boas maybe get another kind (san felipe rosy boas are my personal fave). Sand boas are another neat snake that stays small, but they are pretty secretive and hide a lot. Also if you want to try something really different from Balboa maybe a corn or kingsnake would suit you. I know thats a lot of suggestions... but there are a lot out there. I prefer ball pythons over sand boas and colubrids but Captain Hook, my albino corn, has always been a huge success with kids at the reptile shows I do.

NO, NOT ROSY BOAS! Her boa will stay very small. You are thinking of redtail boas, we are suggesting ball pythons (which stay small) and rosy/sand boas that DO stay small, under 4 feet!!!

My biggest female ball python is 4 1/2 feet and fairly girthy (not sure in inches around) but she's about 2300 grams/5lbs if that gives you an idea, and my only male is only 3-foot something I think, both adults.
