i think rocky is crazy
ok so im in the process of switching all my snakes over to newspaper. my 2 boas are on it, im just waiting for my burm to defecate so he can be put on it. adrian, my female boa is fine, her usual self. rocky though, is going crazy. he never really hides anymore, and is always trying to get out. the newspaper is the same stuff adrians on. hes also active alot. during the day and night. im not sure if i should be worried though, as rockys always been a little well, wierd. what you guys think?

I keep mine on paper without a problem, maybe he's just exploring what to him seems like new surroundings!

all of my boas have been on paper for about 6 months now except for the newest baby and my 2 year old male.
since Gretchen (the baby) is out of qurantine she has been housed in a really nice viv while she's still young & able to use it. being albino she looks SO awesome in the viv and paper in a viv is um...NO! lol
Jager (the 2 year old male) seems to like to nibble on paper. i don't know why he does it but he always chomps down on any corners or anywhere he can manage to get some in his mouth!! maybe he's bored, maybe it has something to do with the ink, who knows....all i know is i don't like what i see when i put him on paper lol.

I have no problem with the 20+ snakes I have being on paper. As long as I keep a few loose sheets on the top so they can hide under it. Is it possible that your male is sexually mature and well.....wants a female?

So, rocky is "going crazy"? Is he just moving around the tank a lot? What did you have him on before? Did he have hides before and doesn't now? I know when I make a change to my cages I sometimes get a reaction, each snake is different, some seem to not care at all, some take time to adjust. My young albino could care less if I put a hide in for him, keep him on paper or bark, he just doesn't care and is always moving around, just haning out like a content snake. One of my normals gets all freaked out anytime something is chaged, I moved her into a bigger cage and she didn't come out of her hide for over 2 weeks except to sneak her head out to the water bowl. If I remove a hide, a lot of times the snake cruises the cage for days on end if they were used to having a hide before (I always provide something for them to hide in now). Just some more thoughts.. he may just not be used to the cage. Also, how do you heat the cage? Sometimes a change in substrate when the snake has belly heat causes the temps to be different (hotter on the cage floor), just one more thing to watch out for. Maybe he's hungry?

Well these things can cover how much ground in the wild?
Maybe he just needs to get out more, stretch, get rid of that energy, It might be frustrating him being in a cage. I mean he is pure muscle.
Every one of them is different and maybe he doesn't like it. I would just get him out more, Sounds like he has ants in his "pants"
