poop
Hey guys, got a weird ? here...My gal RTB defecated last night and it's only half digested with the tail still attatched. Is this ok? I mean it was a huge mouse about 2.5x the size of her widest part and I kinda nuked it for 20 secs after I defrosted in hot water. The belly blew out in the micro, but the rest was ok, so I fed it to her & she digested the head and most of the body except the tail and part of the back, sat in there for maybe 5 days. Her stool sample I took to the vet last week came back fine, so I'm guessing she's ok, just too big a meal. Any help would be nice...

so you would risk the health of a reptile you already have to get a new one?

I know I was just soking, of course she's more important, but still, one regurge, checked & it was, isn't too risky. prolli due to me putting a mouse in too early, she looked like she had fully digested it & the cage smelled, so I put another mouse in, but she couldn't handle it so she regurged the burnt mouse for the fresh one, never again will I micro a mouse.

There's no way you were joking about this: "Not pos, but I fed another properly sized and thawed yesterday as it was the weekend, so it should be ok this week, I don't want to take her to the vet, the reptile expo's coming this weekend & I need my money for that " You know very well that this snake would end up waiting until after the expo!
For one, you never microwave a rat or mouse...it cooks it and makes a mess besides.
If you must feed a mouse or rat that's bigger (not 2 x's as big as you did) than the widest part of the snake, you sure as heck don't try to give it TWO, so she can regurge one and choose the other! If a snake regurges it's food you sure don't go feeding it right away after that! The flora in the snakes belly needs to readjust so it can digest it's food again. You should wait at least a week to let the snake settle back down, ten days is even better.
I've been seeing alot of misguided advice being handed out on your part and I had to say something this time. You really need to check your Husbandry techniques and learn a thing or two before you so freely give out advice that you don't even have the correct answers for...
Mangers: if I'm out of line I apologise head of time. But I don't think so.

True, but if she needs a checkup I'd skip the thing to take her.

Learned this the hard way, read a couple places and guessed that I could hurry things up and nuke it for a couple secs to give it some warmth since I had it soaking in a bag with some warm water & it ended up thawed but not "alive" warm to the touch, which is bad in and of itself...

Of course, but she seemed to have digested it fully and was searching around already, so I wasn't sure...

I'd have to defend myself and say that all my advice is stated as is with no disclaimer; derived from research from multiple sources including here or from my own experience. I may be new to boas, but I have been keeping, raising and breeding snakes for 10 out of 21 years of my life with it being one of my greatest passions, so I'd like to think I'm at least intermediate in knowledge in this arena Jem...

Whatever, it's a private matter honey and doesn't need their help, they can't kick you out for being an idiot and making mistakes, but I try my best.

Ok.. First thing first.. if you have been keeping and breeding snakes for 10 years why would u feed her something 2x her size. Isnt that something you should have known from 10 years with snakes. 2nd as you can tell its BAD to microwave the rat, that like feeding your snake a cooked rat. Also it does sound like a regurge to me, not a poop Ok well i got a feeling we are beating a dead horse here so i am going to stop there with that.

Ok, I guess I had it coming, but the micro thing for one was like 20 secs, just to barely heat it. It's a crappy nuker older than I am, so don't guess it's like a 1500w model that would liquify it into molten mouse goo, just warmed it up.
Also, ya I should've known not to feed it to her, but I'm broke & it was the last mouse in the freezer, she looked hungry & I occasionally feed my snakes a tad bit too much to encourage growth, but it's not quite power feeding, I'm going to wait about 2 weeks til her next meal.
Lastly, it has some excrement on it, so I think its defecate not regurge, but the tail intact was the point of the story.

Just a minor note.
Many snakes, (especially those without heat pits) while more motivated by "alive warm" prey will take room temperature completely thawed prey as well. I douse my rats initially with warm water and It's the ammys fed first because of their pits, baby bci next because they may need the extra motivation, and older bci last. And by then we're back down to pretty much room temp.
Really warm prey isn't all that essential especially for reliable feeders.

One more thing.. You said you are broke right? Then why would you go to the expo to get another snake if you cant care for this one correctly. Thats just me. If I cant provide my snake the correct food size because the lack of cash i woulnt be in a hurry to get another snake, thats just me.

"it has some excrement on it, so I think its defecate not regurge," actually, it was probably half way digested and then puked up, I've had a snake regurg before and it looked like half poo and half messy disgusting nasty rat. Just make sure to give 2 or 3 weeks without any food, just plenty of water and when you feed again make sure to feed something smaller than normal, something that won't make a bulge even to make sure the snake can digest it ok. Regurg does happen, we have all made mistakes and just make sure we learned from them hope that helps...

i would use the money to get a book on how to care for the snake you have now. by the sounds of it if you get more snakes that is more that will need vet care with the stuff you do.

Pride is such a killer. I'm glad you've kept herps for so long. You still have something to learn, well, apparently a lot. So, rather than justify everything you did wrong, and the rationale behind your thoughts, sit back, listen to what people are saying, realize you don't know anything, and be willing to learn. We all make mistakes, and I'll gladly admit mine. But I will not for one moment rationalize what I've done wrong, justify why I did it, or act like it's ok to do. I have much to learn, as do many others here. That chip on your shoulder is going to do more damage than good. Sit down, stfu, and listen.
