Roll Call

I am new here and I see there are many interesting people on this board. I am here to learn more about boas because I recently purchased a few more and now have a total of 9.

If you would like to introduce yourself and tell about your boas as well as any special hints, tips or ideas on boa keeping in this roll call, I would appreciate hearing about you.

Me first:
I am older, have two sons, and the youngest graduated high school last year. I decided to make a big change in my life and go back to school, which I put off when my first child was born, I figure one is never too old to learn.

I live in Texas in a tiny older house, and have reptiles, fish, birds, dog and cat.

My hint on boa keeping: Do NOT pet the kitty before working in the boa cages, the scent makes your boas think that you might be a prey item and they might just take a chomp to check you out...

OK, your turn!

How fun! I love talking about myself and my 'kids'! (ROFL)

I am 23 and have been married for two years. I met my husband in college, but have not finished yet. I work as an avian care specialist at a *cough cough* pet store, but I'm also a docent volunteer at our local zoo where I use live animals in public presentations for education and a volunteer at the bird show at our aviary. This summer, I will be interning as a bird trainer and want to eventually finish school and train birds as a profession. I also want to get into falconry as soon as we have a house and a place to build our own mews.

My husband and I started aquiring animals as soon as we were married. We currently have 55 gallons of tropical fish, three birds, a green iguana, and a bcc boa constrictor. We recently tried to rescue a bci boa, but she was too far gone and didn't make it, so now we have a baby bcc named Dante.

We love dogs and cats, but are especially drawn to non traditional pets. My first love is birds and my second is reptiles. My husband like reptiles better than birds... he doesn't quite appreciate parrot bites

0k. i'll play.

i am 28. i have a wonderful wife, kerri, that comes here occasionally, but lately has had little time to visit any site other than ours. and i have a wonderful stepdaughter, that is 11 and shares our love of reptiles and amphibians.

i have always loved reptiles, especially snakes, even as a kid. and a few years ago, kerri told me i could get a snake, and it snowballed from there. we started with a bci, like most people, but it quickly grew into a diverse collection. we have 30-something snakes, a few lizards, a few amphibians, a few fish, quite a few inverts, and a dog.

my hint... it is sunday. don't sit there all day staring at the computer. get out of the house... and go see star wars.

im going to be 19 tommarow (23rd) i still live at home untill i get my car paid off and save enough money to move out no big rush, i have 6 fish, a dog, a male pastel bci, and a male hypo corn snake, i have loved snakes ever since 7th grade science we had a corn snake and a ball python my love for reptiles grew from there i begged my mom to let me get a snake for 2 years then she realized that i actually knew what i was talking about and how much reading and research ive done on them and gave in to the idea. so after i got the corn i started building a cage and ended up with a ball python then got another ball python and sold my dad the other python but he left it and i had no room for all of them in my room and not enough money to care for all 3 because i didnt have a good job just summer work. so i ended up getting the bci for the 2 balls now i have a steady job and building a new home for my bci a 6'x2'6"x2' and giving my corn snake the boas old home more stretching room i need to add on to my room so i can extend my collection but out of all animals dogs are probably my fave but reaptiles are a really close second.

Alrighty, my name is Charlotte, 26, I'm a nursing student working at a local hospitals cath lab. I've been married for 2 years to my high school sweet heart. I always wanted to be a vet due to my obsession with animals but decided that 10 years in college was to much and far to expensive for my liking.
Hmm, my hint...I would have to argree with Haroldo359, but I hate crowded theaters,,,,watch star wars at home and then call in tomm. to see episode 3 when everyone else is at work

Are you kidding? This is the one day this week that I've had the luxury of staying home, sleeping in, and sitting around in my pj's most of the day... and still, I have to work this afternoon. Bleh.

Hanging out in my pj's beats fighting theater crowds, any day. We'll see Star Wars in a few weeks when it won't be quite as insane.

Ok, here I go...
My name is Kim, 24, and I'm a herpahollic. I have been working for a vet hosp as a vet tech for the last 7 years. My obsession in reptiles started when I was about four years old catching anoles and ring-necked snakes outside in my yard. My first snake that I was allowed to keep was a cornsnake caught at a marina where my father docked his boat at about 13 yrs ago.
My collection now consists of 18 snakes, 3 lizards, 1 bird, 1 dog, and a cat.

My helpful hint: Quarantine all new reptiles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lets see... it looks like life bio quickie telling time..

i'm nora..27 (dont even think it chris!) originally from northern ny (lake placid) and no we have nothing to with the croc movie either.. i work, own tons of snakes, and crack smart comments which can get insulting and offensive in some cases but are generally harmless. I went to college, dropped out, move to melbourne florida and got my first snake (a bcc) last year for my birthday. I detest geriatric floridians who only drive the speed limit on i-95, and dont get outta the left hand lane when im doing 90 down the hwy.. I smoke cigarettes, cuss a lot and i generally hate about 98% of the general public. this site makes up for about 1.5% of the ppl here make up the 2% i do like, but for the most part im a pretty nice person til i get annoyed

When i was a kid when i lived in ny i used to catch all sorts of stupid stuff...toads, frogs, garter snakes n salamanders..just the basic getting into trouble stuff.

snakes... ball pythons, boa constrictors, both bci n bcc, an amazon tree boa, cali king snake, savannah monitor, a leopard gecko, n a new aquired black rat snake.

hints and tips? Ok this is gonna seem brash but it's screams logic. (in general terms) Don't be ignorant and careless..pay attention to your snakes for their sakes n not your own. Don't entertain yourself by feeding live prey and be prepaired for any worse case scenario and always quarentine newly aquired reptiles. if you dont know..ASK first then react.. to many a times i see ppl posting threads about something wrong with their snake and most of the time it's just simple human error... If money, space and time is an issue with owning a snake...then dont buy one..

Lastly, RESEARCH and ask tons of questions even if they seem stupid!! research everything about snakes, from species specifics to all snakes in general...

the more you know the better.

and welcome to the site!

I've been here for a while, so I think most people have some idea who I am, but i'll post a bio just for the heck of it. I'm 29 (almost 30), recently divorced, and have a 6 year old son. I work full time as a vet tech, and have been doing this kind of work for most of my life. I've had a few short-lived stints at other types of jobs, including working at a video store and a library, but since I grew up showing cats, I've just always ended up working for vets or shelters eventually. I grew up in Moline, IL, moved around a few times for my ex's job, but plan on staying put here in Rockford. Finally, for once I don't have to worry about loosing touch with friends because we might have to move again! I live in a crappy little house full of animals, but it's better than nothing, and the critters keep me busy. I currently have 4 cats, a dog, 2 gerbils, 5 lizards, and 9 snakes. Hmmm, a tip you say? Never give up your animals for a guy. You'll regret it later.

This going to be fun. My name is Adam and i love my snakes i treat them as well as i treat my daughter. They all eat 1-2 times a week and after each feeding they get a nice warm shower. Well Except for the Burmese he gets a shower every other day and he gets a shower before he eats because after he eats if i move him to much it could be bad seeings though he eats 5-8 pound baby pigs and he get 2 of them every 5 days to help him get to the length and weight he is supose to be at. But any ways i am 24 years old and i am an amature body builder and semi-pro boxer. I am also going to school part time to become a vet tech. Specializing in reptiles. I decided to do this because one day i was having problems with my little ball python and needed some vet help. Well when i called CASCADE ANIMAL MEDICAL CENTER #507-282-8611 the vet there told me " ALL I KNOW ABOUT SNAKES IS HOW TO CUTTEM GUTTEM CLEANEM AND EAT THEM" And i yelled at him for about 20 minates. And well at that point i decided that i had to do some thing about this so now i am going to school to be a vet tech that any herp lover can call on for help. Oh and feel free to call CASCADE and them know how much you love there Herp department. Oh yea back on topic my daughter is 3 1/2 years old now and i've got her full time as her mother is well very immature and is addicted to drugs and sex. Any ways i grew up in Rochester MN and lived her until i was 18 when i enlisted in the US Army Infantry after 3 months i went to airborne school to learn how to jump out of plains i then went on to Ranger school. After i became a Ranger i went to airasult school in Hawihi and then i was station in Fort Bragg NC with the 82nd Airborne and now i am back home i got out of the army in 2001 Dec 21. Any ways the rest is a very long story. So have a Nice day every one!!!
