Exclamation snake in ohio

i live in ohio and i recently took a trip to southern ohio(along the border) and my family and i saw two snakes one was jet black and his head flared out. the other was black with orange and yellowish stripes. It had a slight bump on his nose. Any Ideas ON What they are?

well my guess is some type of hognose snake...

another thing, it gets a bit over the top when you attach a poll to everything, its not really neccessary

ok the poll is totally pointless, there is no such thing as a easy to care for snake..

anywho.. the second snake could be a common oridinary garter snake : Thamnophis sirtalis

not sure about the first one.. it could be anything like a water snake or a black rat snake

both the snakes were around 3-4 feet long
i know the second snake wasnt a garter snake
