Traveling with redtail boa by car
I am driving cross country about 21/2 day with one overnight stay. What is the best way to transport my redtail?

In a pillow case and then in an appropriate sized tote. Make sure the car isn't left in the hot sun while you eat. Even in the shade might get too hot or too cold. You will have to keep a very close watch on what the temps are in the car but also watch where the sun is coming through the glass. At night in the hotel, you can just set the tote half way onto a human heat pad set on low.

I have heard some bad stories about snakes being carried in pillowcases and air has not been able to get through. The snakes ended up dying. I would buy a smaller rubbermaid to transport your snake in. Be sure to drill appropriate holes for ventilation.

They probably died from other issues. Plenty of air will permiate through a normal cotton pillow case for a snake. Whoever you talked to must have had some kinky latex pillow cases. LOL

Pillowcases don't kill snakes. People doing stupid stuff with pillowcased snakes kill snakes. That's why when traveling you should put the pillowcased snake in a tote with airholes...double security. If just in a tote, you hit a bump and the lid comes off...snake loose in the car. Plus they slide and bump around. If just in a pillow case, they can squirm around and fall off the seat or get under the seat or have luggage fall over on them...all kinds of things can happen.

I am leaving Kentucky on May 23 and driving to Arizona. We will stop one night at a hotel and can put him in a cage over night with his heat lamp. So a pillow case and then in say a small cage?

A small rubbermaid would be fine, as was all ready mentioned above. I have made car trips with my snake four times all ready and never had any problems (My trips were only 10 hours each time). I put the snake in a pillowcase, then put a few hand towels in the bottom of the rubbermaid, then the snake (in pillowcase) then a few more cloths on top to make sure he wouldn't be bouncing around. Just keep an eye on the rubbermaid so it stays out of direct sunlight like Brett said and all should be fine.
