exercising our reptilian cousins
with the summer coming up in the uk, there will be a handful of days when the weather will be hot enough for my boa to roam outside, shes just over 5 foot now so it will be good for her to get out in a wide open space. i've got quite a large garden with newly built fences pretty sure theres no way out not that i'd leave her unattended !!, but one thing that does concern me is the possibility of picking up mites outside ? does anyone know more about them, i do also have a dog i don't know if theres much of a risk from dog crap but i think it would be best to keep her well away from the areas he frequents to relieve himself, probably could pick up some nasty bacteria. does anyone else let there snakes roam, ever had any problems ?

Cousins? Pushing this Darwin thing a bit far aren't we? lol
It's not likely that you have reptile mites in your yard wherever you are in the UK. If you did, you would be bringing them in on your clothes anyway. Reptile mites are found in the wild where there is a dense population of reptiles for them to feed on. These mites DO NOT feed on mammals or birds...The mites that do feed on mammals or birds do not feed on reptiles. Ticks are more of a concern but fairly easy to spot if she picks one up. So by all means, let her out to stretch her legs. No fence will keep a boa contained though so don't take your eyes off her.

If you lived in the Aussie outback, Kenya or A South American jungle, I'd be worried about mites. The only way you are going to find reptile mites is to visit a petstore...not your yard Cheers yourself
