Columbian boas are probably the most docile of all snakes, as long as it has proper care. It really depends what kind of boa you get. Red tails in general i think are really docile. But then again, if you get an Amazon Tree Boa, then this changes because they are really aggresive. I have a Hog island boa, and she is very tame.

It really depends on the individual animal. I've had the rare common boas that were nippy, but the majority have been mellow. I believe if you get a baby, or very young animal, it will in the long run associate you with non-threatening interaction and therefore be very docile. Just remember this will be a long term commitment (boas can live 20, 25 or even more years) so if you make this new snake your buddy it'll be around for a long time and need your care and attention it's entire life! Sometimes it means cleaning up the poopy cage before going out and being with your "human" buddies. Handle your boa frequently and you'll not likely have any problems!

If I were a snake...and someone shipped me to Canada...I would bite any human that came near me too. :P

Your friend may be dealing with argentine or central american boas...or possibly BCC (Surinames, guyanans etc)...all of these can be fairly agressive animals. Colombians and Hog Island boas are generally pretty laid back. Of course there are exeptions...but longterm stuck in their ways snappy BCI are almost always Central American boas.

By the way?? Where did this guy get his info about Boas? Dogs can be bitey, Cats too?? Anything can bite but to say Boas in particular is absurd. There are various species to choose from so choose wisely and know that it will require alot of attention to get him or her acclimated to you and your enviorment. Snakes are like any animals, when you back anything into a corner and it feels threatened, it will fight back and lash out, ANYTHING will do that. Anyway you sound like you have a clue to what you are doing but just know big snakes can mean big bucks when it comes to feeding and health care. Good luck bro!!!

PythonGuy24 is an unknown quantity at this point
I think you need to ask this guy specificly what subspecies these things are. nycsfinezt61189 summarized it perfectly, there are over 50 kinds of boas. Alot are nice(colombiam, hogg island), then many are very mean(amazon trees, emerald trees). And also if you are just starting with a mid-big snake I'd go with a ball python because they are 99.9% nice all the time and usually don't have too many problems with care(humidity, heat), but asBaby said "whatever floats your boat."

Both of my BCI's are Dog Tame. Really dog tame they crawl on the floor and play with the dog. My dog even keeps people away from his buddies. By the way I dont leave them alone for 1 second and my eye is always on them.
