Question 2 Boas Together

We have a 2 year old female boa and a 10 month old female boa. We just purchased a large enclosure and were thinking about putting both of them together. They have seen eachother before, but have never been enclosed together. The 2 year old is sooooo mellow......I'm beginning to think she spends time with Cheech and Chong while we are at work! She is just mellow, mellow, mellow. The 10 month old has become more mellow as she has grown. Does anyone house their boas together and is this okay? It would be more of a space saving issue for us. I just don't want to wake up and have only 1 boa in an enclosure where there used to be two,,,,,if you catch my drift. Let me know. Thanks!

Lisa

No one should keep any snakes together, except for breeding.

If one snake gets sick, the other does too.

If one snake is hungry(There should be a size difference, right? How big are each?)it will it the other, just like you said.

as what bpkid told is true..never ever house 2 snakes together.. it doesnt matter if they were born out of the same clutch or are "best friends" you would be putting your snakes health at risk if one gets sick...so no it's not a good idea.

True except the chances of one boa eating the other are pretty slim, unless your larger boa happens to not be a boa at all, but is a kingsnake!

I love how so many people are against housing boas together and most the time there problem is that they will get sick. so maybe humans should never get married and live together because they will get one another sick. or maybe people with 2 dogs should never have 2 because if one got sick the other would. sickness is a part of life! if the 2 boas are kept in the right temps etc. toghter and the cage is big enouh and you feed out side the cage seprate there will not be any problem. all the what ifs and this could happen stuff is a *edited*

Why take the risk? Illness is not the only concern- stress is a major factor. Reptiles in the wild, especially snakes, are territorial. They do not seek each other out for company, only for breeding purposes. A cage mate will not be seen as a companion, only as competition for food, basking areas, hiding spots, etc. Dogs are pack animals and enjoy having another dog around- snakes do not. Why put them through the stress for our own convenience?

I hate to be the one to mention money! but the fact is that it can be a very expensive time when you go to the vets with a sick boa, if you have to sick boas then double the expense!.
Also there is the risk of injury/death if one boa turned on the other while competing for a basking spot, OR, if after feeding 1 of the boas struck at the other cause it smelled of rat! I appreciate space is a concern but as you can see from this thread there are too many negatives and almost no possotives, so IMO why take the risk?
