Got babies sexed. Disproportionate sexes
Well today was the big day to find out who was who out of the babies. I had already sold 1 male and 4 females, but didn't know what the rest were. ANyhow, I ended up with a total, including the ones I sold, of 18 girls and 10 boys. One nice thing was that the 4 holdbacks I have turned out to be 2/2.
I really expected a more even distribution of the sexes, but I guess more girls is better than more boys.

Are you going to just have general prices...normal=$ Pastel=$ or are you going to price them individually?

If I had babies I would take the unusual patterned ones and sell them for more and the normal looking ones for the price they normally sell for. I like to individualy price them but if 10 look pretty much the same then sell them for all the same price. Cleaner patterned ones go for more as well as reduced and broken striped or ladder.

These babies are being sold as normals, red saddled, and pastels. If you go to my site I have the prices posted. I am still waiting for them to finish their second shed before I take pictures. They just ate again tonight too. They are all pounding F/T pinkie rats now so they will never need to be fed live or switched over from mice. They will be on fuzzies rats next week when the new order comes in from Rodent pro. And as soon as I get my "facility" inspection from Delta Dash I will be a Known shipper and be able to ship anywhere in the US. This costs a little bit more (about $13-$15) than is would be to overnight with Fed-ex or UPS, but I won't have to lie to the shipping company about what is in the box, they will be insured and can be wherever they need to be in half the time it takes an over night shipper like Fed-ex. I am only interested in the animals welfare and if someone doesn't want to pay the little bit extra then they can get their snake someplace else. There are plenty of other breeders out there that will ship them cheaper with other carriers.

What is involved in this process?

Well it is pretty simple really. They come out to your facilty, which in my case is my house, and see your setup. What they really want is to make sure that you are who you say you are and live where you say you live. I am sure that in the past they have had people ship illegal things under a false address and now they are making sure that doesn't happen by coming out to your facility to see your business in person. No problem for me.
There is also a contract that you have to sign and the only real requirement with that is that I ship at least 6 times a year with them in order to keep my known shipper status. The whole thing is free as long as I follow their requirements and the stipulations in the contract. Pretty good deal I think.

"This costs a little bit more (about $13-$15)"
that's actually pretty good for the shipping....I haven't seen any shipping for reptile dealers under $30

Yes, I did mean 13 to 15 dollars more. Fed-ex runs about $35 for most of their overnight deliveries with a box the size I am using and Delta has a minimum charge of $48 with the weight.
ANd yes you do have to pick it up at a Delta Dash facility, but that is better than it riding around in a cold or hot truck for half the day.

Oh yea, one more thing. WIth Delta Dash in most cases you will have your snake withing 8 hours of the time I shipped it. And that does wonders for lowering the stress level on the snake.

I know that breeders can ship right to your house if you want to pay for the courier's service. As I know they can do this in the U.S but not in Canada where I am.

David, just to let you know.....my husband works at DFW and told me that Delta is pulling out of alot of airports. They have already left DFW so I don't know what impact this might have for people that ship Delta Dash. | |
