I am going to attempt to switch my boa over to rats. She is right around 27-30 inches long, and have been previously feeding her 2 hopper mice. Now what kind sized rat do i need to get? Thanks alot

i would say small, but i think that one big item is better than 2 big items, i just started feeding my boas rats about a week ago and doesnt she just love them, well only except mines about 24" inches. well good luck!

I have a 32" BCI that is taking one f/t weaned rat every 10 days quite easily. For yours, I'm guessing pups, maybe weanlings. The basic rule of thumb to follow is, one prey item that is the same thickness, or ever so slightly larger, than the thickest part of the snakes body. If it is a BCC, I woun't push the thickness of the prey item to slightly larger, as they may have a tendancy to regurge a meal that is too large. It is better to err on the side of caution. Your Boa will benifit greatly from a more nutritious rat. Good luck with the switch!

ok, it is a BCI, so i will try a pup first, see how it handles it, and if its easy, ill try weanlings.

why not just buy a rat the same size or slightly larger than the snakes fattest point! go to rep shop with a mental pic of your boa and ask to look at the rats. I do quite often and probably drive them mad picking and choosing which rats I want and which I dont.

At that size, pups are just about right. Just keep in mind that on rats, your boa will grow a lot faster. He will be ready for weaned in a very short period of time. =) good luck!

I would try a rat pup, if no lump try a rat weanling and if still no lump go for a small. Just keep doing that until you find that the right size leaves a nice lump. I would feed 1 food item thats as big or a bit bigger then the 2 small food items put together.
