one female died last night

I have been posting regarding my concern about my neo BCCs and sure enough just when I thought they were comming around a female died last night. I originally got a shipment of 1.2 super salmons on 01-05. One was doa due to cold. The other two warmed up and even ate twice and seemed fine until about a week ago. Coincidentally I put them each in a large enclosure about the same time but I find it hard to blame the move. Now the third one is showing similar sign of sluggishnesss and doesn't take food. I hope he comes around because I spent good $ and had plans on breeding thm in the future. I't a shame to say the least. How do I go about replenishing possible pairs?

sorry to hear about your lost.

but seriously, you need to get the male to the herp vet pronto. if the symptoms of the male show to be the same as the one that died then that should be a clue to get them treated..you're letting your snake die by not getting them to the vets. there could be something more serious causing your snakes to get sick.

also check your temps and husbantry as well make sure they're where they are suppose to be.

I have been searching for a herp vet w/o luck but have a lead on one I am checking on today. The last male of the three I realy want to get looked at asap and had plans on a visit for both before the girl checked out. They never showed any symptoms other than being very lazy and uninterested in food. I know this time of year a lot of snakes go off food and they did eat about 10 days ago so that was not my main concern. Really makes me mad. I was really excited about starting some breeding efforts in a few years and this is a major set back. I still think they got too cold during shipping but I'm no vet.

If one was DOA from the cold on arrival I would have contacted the seller immediatly. This is a hard time of year to be shipping snakes and they should have had at least 2, but preferably 3, heat packs in the box with them with one in each bag. It is such a shame for those babies to have died and I am very sorry this has happened to you. Have you contacted the seller at all about replacements? Regardless of if they are replaced or not life has been lost and that is not fair to the snakes at all. I hope that you can get the male to pull through. I would keep a very close eye on him till you get to a vet.

The seller should be, in my opinion, responsible for any vet bills you have to pay as a result of their not sufficiently heating the package. Are you sure you have super-salmons? If you're dropping that much money on snakes, and the seller is into breeding/selling to that degree, then they should by all means know how to ship a snake properly in the winter. If I were you I'd be very suspicious.

I have a 10:00 appt this AM and am bringing both my snakes. I am almost certain now it is RI cause I can hear a faint wheezing from the larger one. I hope this vet knows her stuff.

Oh yeah-In defense of the supplier I cannot point to him as much as I can the PO. It was very clearly stated on the packaging temp instructions and they assured him when he shipped them they would ride in the cab. In addition the packaging was more than adequate for normal to cool weather. Unfortunately we had a real cold snap for those two days. In the super thick cooler were four heat heat packs taped to the insides. Lastly he is a friend of mine and is going to replace them when he drops some new clutches this spring.

How would you suggest they be relocated to a buyer or are you saying just wait for warmer weather? If the later I'd have to agree. If something can go wrong-it will.

hold on there sparky.. just cuz you cant stand the fact that people ship livestock on a daily basis does not give you the means to be so quick to comment the way you did. Just think of where you animals came from.. im sure their parents or grandparents had to be "posted like an letter" at some point from south america. other wise you wouldnt even have em.

Easy there Themoononastick. Most breeders take great precautions when shipping their reptiles. The person who sold these snakes should have looked at the weather report for his area and the destination for the days that the snakes were to be shipped and delayed the shipment if there was going to be a bad cold snap. It may be easy to run around and pick up your snakes from the breeders there in the UK, but we don't live in a country that you can drive across in less than a day. ANd if we want a snake that is 2000 miles away it just doesn't make sense to drive across the country on a 5 day round trip to pick it up.

Are you saying they were sent two day shipping....if so they should have been sent al least next day by noon.
