Easy way to keep humidity up
Hey guys, I'm struggling to keep the humidity high enough in my tank, I've been keeping a damp towel on the top but it get's pretty smelly after a few days Is there an easy way to keep the humidity up and the smell down?
BTW the previous owner never monitored the humidity just kept a water bowl in the tank, the snake is 6 years old so by raising the humidity any its only more then what the boa has been used to before.
What should I shoot to keep the humidity at?

50-60 is good for bci's. There are alot of things you can do. Making a humid hide is one of em, so they can get in there and feel safe but also get the humidity without totally soaking. I'm betting your humidity has dropped with winter. You could try a humidifier in your snake room. We've got one running and it keeps everything around 50% without anything else. You could try misting to raise it just a bit more if needed, also the water bowl on the warm side with the tank half covered will raise it a bit without using a wet towel.

Hi get a small spray bottle and mist the boa and viv each day to help keep humidity up, and move water bowl closer to the heat source as this generates humidity.

Re: Easy way to keep humidity up
Cardboard, I wouldn't really recommend.. it tends to get musty and I've found it can grow mold after a while. Go down to the nearest home renovations store, and pick up a piece of plexiglass. You could actually take the measurements of the half of the tank you plan to cover, and get them to cut it to size for you. Drill a few holes into it for ventilation, set it on the desired part of the tank, and voila! That should keep the humidity in nicely.

Re: Easy way to keep humidity up
I went the lazy route and bought a Habba Mister. You can set it for 1,3,6, and 12 hour intervals, and 15,30,45,60 seconds sprays. My place is naturally at 50-55% humidity so this usually brings it up to around 60-65%.

Re: Easy way to keep humidity up
Cover part of the top with glass or plexi-glass. It works for all my boas and I never mist.

What exactly is a humid hide? And how do you make one?
