Changing color ?
Are BCI's able to lighten or darken their color? I've noticed that sometimes my male looks light and then at time he seems darker, mostly on the head. And, no I don't mean changing color because of an upcoming shed.
Thanks for your time, James

Yah they do that. It aids in thermoregulation. Darkness helps absorb heat. Females darken up a LOT when gravid.

Hey, another quick question. If they change their color to help thermoregulation, then does darker mean they are to cool or to warm?
Thanks,
james

It would mean that they "MAY BE" trying to warm up a bit. It could also be a mood thing. Noone really knows so don't bank on it too heavily. I notice mine change with the time of day...daytime and night colors... and they turn dark sometimes a couple of weeks before they go into shed...so...I just figure it's something they do and don't try to think too much into it. I LOVE when my female amazons darken up heavily after a postovulation shed though...It means they are gravid and so far has been 100%

Hi,
Was just checking out your pictures and you website. You have alot of talent. Your pictures are awesome. Your website is good also. I noticed the pics of your birds. Just wondering what all does your household consist of. Personally, my partner and I have:
1 Doberman
2 Burmese youngsters
3 BCI, 2 babies and my big girl.
3 Canaries
and more cats then I can count, lol.
We breed and show Sphynx Cats.
If you get a chance check out of website, let me know what you think, I would say that 95% of the pictures on the site I took. My partner did most of the layout and design of the site.
Gotta run for now take care.
James
P.S. Would love to see the pictures in your gallery that are under lock and key. lol.
