Delilah Had her babies. Need Help!!!!
Went downstairs today and found that the female I thought to be gravid, then wrote her off as possibly absorbing the babies, popped out a clutch of babies.
if i counted right 22 very well formed babies, and 16 slugs. Bad thing is when i found her this morning she was laying on a few of them, and you can tell they were crushed, But the rest look perfect, but NO MOVEMENT!!!! I broke them all out of their membrane sack, and only one is moving.
When do i write them off? do they normally move right away? the last clutch they seemed to move right away.
This is the one thats moving. WHAT A LOOKER!!!

I was insane with glee when i saw that mess there. Delilah was a real treat to get out of the cage too She didn't get me though... YET. As I'm grinning from ear to ear picking out the babies, my smile got smaller and smaller with each baby i picked out
For right now i broke them out of their sacks, put them on a heat pad, and misted them lightly incase there is any life left in them. But I'm a realist, i know what the outcome most likely will be.
Even the one that is moving , isn't doing a whole lot

aww poor babies.. =( definately keep a good eye on the surviving baby. the other ones if they havent moved since they've been born then its a loss. but best of luck on the baby!! that should be a keeper. that one's speashul.

If they were not out of their sack, I would say most of them were still born. It sounds like she had them last night some time. I know she has been holding onto those babies for quite some time. It's possible she held onto them for too long and that is why they didn't make it. I guess I can speculate all day long though. The only way to truely tell what happened is a necropsy.
If your up to it, you could do one there. If she crushed them, you may be able to tell by the way the internal organs look. Brett may be able to help you out as well if you take some well lit pictures of the babies opened up.

I'm sorry, that's really sad. Do you know what caused it to happen?

For my calculatons she was VERY late. Samson and her were seperated late december/ early january. I recall i was guestamating her due date the beginning to mid may. I had figured since i changed her cage late in the pregnancy , that maybe she got stressed and absorbed them. Or i wrote her off as not being gravid in the first place, just maybe well fed. I'm by no means an expert on breeding. Not sure yet if i want to be. i just put them together and let nature take its course.
I'm sure its a combination of her being late, and some being smashed. The smashed ones were quite obvious.
