When should I start to worry....Should I make a vet appt? Can they do sonagrams (spelling) on snakes???? I am getting worried....Help any advice would be great?

It has been a long time since I bred BC and I do not remember the number of days exactly my former breeders took to "pop", but seem to remember it was around 4 months give or take. A lot depends on the temp she is being kept at. I had one gravid female Mojave rattlesnake that took twice the normal time to dump her offspring because I kept her on a top shelf in front of the cooler vent during her gestation period.

In other words, I would not be too worried if she was my snake. You may want to contact one of the larger experienced BC breeders direct, but I am sure one of the first questions they would want answered is the constant temperature she has been maintained at during gestation.

You may want to ask Jeff Ronne, The Boaphile. You can find him at www.boaphileplastics.com

He is an expert on breeding boas.
Nice looking mom to be you've got there.

116 days isn't really over the top in terms of the upper limits on the days.
If she starts to act listless or seems to be trying to push and nothing comes out or any other behaviour that's really really off then I would take her to the vet. Vets can do sonograms but right now the trip to the vet would be too much of a stressor and she might hold off even longer.
Keep maintaining all appropriate temps.... I would mist her daily.... and even put a laying box in.... they seem to really like those... a sweaterbox with some moistened cyprus or even aspen.... that really deep... it doesn't necessarily need a lid....
Over on the boa thinktank we had a snake go 125 from the POS and the litter was totally fine....
watch her closely and be patient, things should turn out alright...
but if you see any radically suspicious behaviour then it's time for the vet...
good luck, the wait is rather painful.... but it'll all be over soon...
keep us updated.

To revisit. A guy on the AHA board just posted that his female just had her babies and it has been 8 months since copulation took place - last October! This reminds me of some BC breeding that took place by others in the past were they would keep the gravid females at cooler temps to produce striped offspring. Unfortunately, stripers produced this way are not genetic and the trait will not be passed on. You can also ifluence the sex ratio between males and females by careful temp regulation.

I am sure your boa and her offspring are fine and if I was you, I would save the moneythat a vet visit would cost.

Just an update....Today is day 125 and nothing. I have been misting her daily and I moved her water dish over the heat to add more humidity. I am starting to think there is something wrong...She has to be gravid other wise there would be no reason for her to refuse food for so long. I am giving her until the 7th then I will be taking her to the vet....Well the waiting continues and I will keep updating all of you on what happens, good or bad. Jamie/Blueeheeler

That is a really beautiful gravid boa. I would give it some time, it looks like mama is gonna have a big clutch, shes nice and thick. Congradulations I hope it all works out for you. I would give it a little bit more time before considering taking it to the vet.
