I have bci my the name of Geranomo. My question is what can cause a bci to become very hyper when it comes to taking him out of his enclosure. Once I get him out he calm then he tries to get away. Does anyone knows what causes this and how do I get rid of these symptoms...PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Just some tips-
Handle him frequently, even daily if possible. Be calm around him- avoid sudden movements.
Make sure he is secure when you are handling him.
-A hungry snake will actively search out food.
If it is a VERY young snake, it just needs some TLC. If it is an older snake and you have been doing everthing right, then don't wrry about it. Not all BCIs are placid w\ humans. Sometimes people end up w/ wc and don't even realize it. WC take a much longer time to acclimate to being handled then CB.
Good luck

That should come with time and regular handling. Then again it may never settle down. Snakes, like people, can have different "personalities". Just be persistent.

I guess it depends on what you mean by hyper. One thing I have found is if it's a male, they are VERY curious. They get content in their cage, but when you take them out you have exposed them to a whole new world, and they want to see it.
One of my males, is a super sweet snake, but as soon as he is out, he wants to cruise. If he is in an interesting environment he is next to impossible to hold, since he wants to explore.
Now if he is getting agressive, that a whole nother ball game. I like to use a hook to kinda alert them that I'm coming in, and that its not feeding time. Maybe the snake isn't used to your scent, could try a worn shirt in the cage so he gets used to your scent. Just not one that you wore after running a marathon. I know if it were from me that would be one ticked off snake for smelling that all day.lol

Two ways- both are good
1. Announce your presence- Show him in some way that you are there, let him acknowledge that first. Then reach for him slowly, picking him up @ the mid-point of his body. If he strikes, let him. Keep a steady hand - don't pull away if struck at(there's worse things than getting nipped by a BCI). Give him support and be gentle. Spend some time petting him in areas he is uncomfortable with, but don't over do it. Try to "de-sensitize" touchy areas, but alos respect his space. He will let you know when he has had enough.
2. Same as above, but instead of going slow: just reach in quick and grab that mid-point. Once in hand he should calm down fast. Be sure to let him know you are there first though!
(editing this after re-reading)
-Don't jerk him out of his enclosure. Pick him up fast, then take him out slowly. (kinda sounded bad when i read over it again)

There is kinda a give and take initially. Until he is acclimated to his surroundings and more importantly being handled, he is going to be stressed. How do you get him acclimated and calm? Handle him. There will be a certain amount of stess every time you handle him, just don't be unreasonable. He won't calm down over night.

Thanks for the feed back. I have taken hime out of his tank in the past. But now since I have moved him into antoher tank out of the dinning area of the houst into a big one in my bedroom is vertually untouchable. Now once he is out if the tank he is okay, but the hard part is getting him out of the tank. He is nice snake and very pretty...but he is some issues with coming out of his tank he doesn't want to come out of his tank. I noticed that on feeding day I have no problem out of him as far taking him out and putting him back in. My snake needs conselling...

update...i noticed that since i have cleaned his cage and changed the bedding, he has calmed down a whole lot...i believe that fact the when he was fed his tank the smell lingered and was just in defensive mode...i don't know but i don't normally don't feed in the tank because of this but i had no choice...we were in the process of moving and i wasn't about to deprive my babies because of the fact that the family opted for bigger place...but he has calmed down a whole lot since then...
