Going to attempt breeding Sun Conures
OK...Here is the story...lol
I bought Picasso (male) a year and half or so ago and I just adopted Sonni (female) from Tambra. She has been working with her for a pretty long time and can't get her to stop biting and she keeps laying infertile eggs so Herm built her a nesting box and we set it up here. My original intentions were to breed for a few chicks and then adopt her out, hand raise the babies and give one to Tambra to start fresh. From what I have been reading and hearing from breeders, now that they are bonding, they really should be left as a pair and it would be kinda mean to split them up...so ,,,oh well what's 8 birds when you already have 7 right? Geez this is getting as bad as my snake collection. But anyway, If this all works out, I should have some nice hand raised baby conures available soon for a very reasonable price. I just let them out of the cage together today for the first time. They have been side by side for a week but haven't been able to make physical contact. They seemed to hit it off well. At first they were more interested in each other's cage toys LOL...but they are following each other around a lot. I don't think either has found the nesting box yet but I'm sure they will eventually.
Which one seems the most shy here? lol

Good luck there Jules.
I won't be putting an order in soon though.
I had the 'pleasure' of babysitting a Sunconure about
a year ago. I guess I just don't have the patience. This animal ,
'Pico' was the bird equivalent of a teenager in age and attitude.
It was a two week night mare of squawks.

I had two conures a long time ago man they can be loud they #$%^$%^$%^$%^& near ran me out of the house I also hand raised some cockateils once, I hope you know what your up for. Hand feeding them takes up a lot of time when there real young like every 3 hours if I remember right but don't quote me I just now I had to get up in the middle of the night to feed them but it was all worth it they turned great.

Hey Brett, they are looking really adorable there! I had to go ahead and make that second shot my new wallpaper
I have the fullest confidence that Brett and Megan will be able to pull this off without a doubt. We both did some homework before embarking on this, it wasn't a spur of the moment decision.
I think Sonni will be a lot happier being in a more social environment, along with other birds. It was a sad and heart wrenching moment when I realized that all the care and love I was able to give to her when she was with me could not compensate for 9 years of neglect from her previous owner.
Thanks again Brett & Megan -- Even if she doesn't have chicks (although I am pretty sure she will because she is quite randy :P ) I know she will be well taken care of!

Speaking of second shot and new wallpaper. Don't these birds enjoy fruit and nectar? I bet they can "duce" it up if you catch my drift.

hhmmmmm. I might actually be interested in a baby Sun Conure when I get back to the states. I had that B&G macaw a while back and it was a handfull to say the least. I still haven't replace the wallpaper where he pulled it off.
I will have to keep tabs on how your breeding projects goes.
