Bubo virginianus

Great Horned Owls (Bubo virginianus) are one of favorite type of owls. These birds are permanent nesters and I have the pleasure of seeing them on a nightly basis. I believe this particular one is a juvenile, the adults are much larger.

TOTALLY WILD!!! I love the pose on the barbed wire - can't get more of a warning than that!

We have what we call "Screech Owl" and "Patoo" here, have not checked the scientific names recently. Now and then one is injured and brought to the JSPCA here, then I am called to bring mice to feed them.

Ohhhh....that is bad...owls are the coolest birds that there are...I'm thinking about incorporating an owl into my first tattoo.

Screech owls are really neat birds. Here is a western screech owl (Otus kennicottii).

Re: Bubo virginianus

Hey thanks! I love birds of prey too. It's a blast watching them out here. Arizona has a surprisingly large number of birds of prey. The majority of them are protected for good reason.

Barn Owl (Tyto alba)

Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura)

Red-Tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)
