Can you ID the Bird?

I didn't recognise this bird of prey and needed a birding friend to ID the species. Do you know what it is? The bird is native to North America.

Re: Can you ID the Bird?

North America is a big place!
.
It looks a lot like a Cooper's hawk. But there are many hawks that fool me when they are not yet in mature feather.
.
Great photos.

Re: Can you ID the Bird?

Looks like a redtailed hawk without the red tail. Could be a close relative.

You're right! It's red-tailed hawk less than a year old.
