This is from an article in the May 2003 Bird Talk
>>>Congo African grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus erithacus)-- gray with a black beak and bright red rail; 12-14 inches in length; weigh 375-600 grams.
Timneh African grey parrot (Psittacus e. timneh)--darker gray with a horn colored upper mandible and black lower mandble and a brownish to maroon colored tail; Approximately 10 inches in length; weigh 300-375 grams.
Origin: Equatorial and West Africa, from west coast east to western Kenya and north western Tanzania.
Maximum Life Span: 40-60 years (and you guys think 20 years with a snake is a commitment)
Sexual Maturity: 6-7 years of age although some have reproduced at younger ages.<<<
My roommate has a CAG named Smokey. (Everyone names their greys Smokey) He was a pet that didn't get handled much so now he won't tolerate any contact. Becasue of this he was sold or given back to the store where my roommate works and was used as a breeder. He wasn't successful as a breeder so my roommate bought him and now he is a pet again. We can't touch him. When I reach into his cage to get his water bowl he poofs up and leans toward me, ready to bite. Lucky for him, he's a good talker, especially when he doesn't think anyone is listening. Usually he just sits on top of his cage and watches us or the other birds. He also likes to watch cartoons.

Hi. I used to have an African Grey that unfortunately opened it's cage and flew away and we never saw her again. She was so great, we hand fed her from a baby. She would say Matt(my name) in my mother's voice and Mom in my voice. Anytime the phone rang she would instinctly say Hello! She would also bark like our dog, even a year after our dog's death, which was actually kind of sad...Anyway, they are incredibly smart and beautiful birds...I definitely recommend them. One thing though, they are very shy and reserved birds...not at all like cockatoos who are very outgoing. They aren't a bird that is comfortable with being around large groups of people or being shown off.

Re: African Grey Parrot
dude, this thread is from 2003. Quit bumping old threads. If you want to sell your birds, go on a bird forum.
