I found this little beaver pond Fri by accident.. and found 14 Great Blue Heron nests and 25-30 birds. Soooo I went back today (Sunday) with some Telephoto equipment to take pics....dragged Tambra (Schatzie) Out there too...She seemed to enjoy them too. They really are awesome birds. I took this first photo to give a better idea of what little specs they looked like way up in the trees on the other side of the swamp... This photo was taken with just a 50 mm lens...The rest were taken with 1200mm total focal length...anyway...enjoy.

See the birdie way up in the top left corner above the nest?

Same bird a little closer up

Lots more photos of these birds here---> Great Blue Heron Photos

OOOOO, it looks like I could just reach out and pet that fella!
Those pictures are magnificent - he looks like he is posing for you

I totally enjoyed that trip, I was quite overcome by the number of Herons out there, and I don't think I have ever seen them perching before. It was an actual swarm of them out there.
Despite their great size, they were very graceful when they landed in those trees.
Seeing them all in flight definately made me think of pterodactyls, I felt like I had stepped back in time!
