Wanted to know if there is any way to help the bird that has molted but still has the sheaths on his head feathers? Is there anything one can do to get him through this stage or should nature take care of it?
I thought I had read somewhere that you can gently roll the sheath in your fingertips to help, but I cannot find that website where I THINK I read that.
Also, tried the towel trick last night on the conure to see if it would help him bond with me but he didn't really fight it. He bit it a few times, and just let me baby talk and coo to him, petted his head, beak, cheeks with no problem. Later, he also let me put him on his back while resting in the palm of my hand and allowed me to pet his head, belly, beak, checks and he was so far into the ectasy of it all his eyes were closing and he was doing those cute little beak clicks!
So, on a good note, I think we are bonding. Now comes the training.

Rolling the sheaths is what we did with our canaries and cockatiels as they were getting their feathers. Didn't seem to hurt them.
Glad to hear you and your Conure are getting along

hehe pin feathers are Megan's top priority...she can't stand to see them and if a bird has them...she's picking at them. It doesn't hurt them to roll them around and slide them off. It's all part of preening and might even help you bond.

Just something to remember.....make sure the "pin" feather is white and doesn't have a bluish tint to it ( BLOOD FEATHER.....ouch )

Thanks for the info ya'll !!
Had a good time doing it, and he seemed to enjoy it too.
Was kinda hard to roll, I am sure with a little practice it will get easier.
Maybe next time you and Megan are over, she can give me a few pointers

Edited due to content that was deemed offensive toward the original poster.
If it was in fact an attempt at humor, it failed.

lol Guess i just answered my own Question What kind of Conure did you get? A couple weeks back the shop I go to (Rita's pets, an awsome place) was sitting a routy sun. I believe most of the employees are starting to get their hearing back now lol. Needless to say, don't let a Conure develop a sceeming prob! -Juggalo
