Xeike's new Baby!
I got a raven yesterday! He's still a little thing, but he's so hand-tame it' crazy. Very curious about everything adn a strong eater.
He's already decided that I am Momma, and he's nervous of everyone else. I've clipped his toenails and he's currently sitting on my knee watching me type and trying to get a closer view of the keys by walking down my arm and staring at them. lol
I'll be displaying him on my webcam for those of you curious types since my real cam died.
my yahoo SN is aoradarkraven
Feel free to IM me to see him.

Re: Xeike's new Baby!
How "wee" of a baby are we talking about? If it's big enough that it has any sort of flight feathers at all, it was probably learning to fly and left the nest on its own, and I'm sure its parents were still around when it got picked up.... soooo... it probably should be taken back.
if it's still pretty much a pink thing with no flight feathers... then that's another story.

i agree with Adrya. if s/he has become attached to u and is learning to fly, u should keep it. if its not attached to u bring it back.

Re: Xeike's new Baby!
Ha ha Is there any kind of exotic animal you haven't owned? You are truly the quintessential animal lover.
There is a lady who lives in Denver who is 95 years old. She devoted her whole life to helping birds and lived for 26 years with a raven in her living room. He had a huge cage which took up 2/3 of the living room. Apparently, they are extremely intelligent, and I guess you know all the legends about them. I hope, as Adrya says, that his mother is not looking for him!

Re: Xeike's new Baby!
well it's a little late now to be saying bring it back. but since you do have a raven, i'm a little jealous, seeing as corvids are some of the smartest birds, and even maybe some of the smartest animals. it should be interesting to see what kind of mischief it will get into as it grows up since experimentally it's been shown that ravens show rather high level though, the ability to learn quickly as well as the ability to think through a problem with little or no trial and error. should actually be a blast.

Re: Xeike's new Baby!
Taking a corvid (crow/raven) from the wild is illegal under the Federal Migratory Bird Act of 1918. I would try to locate a licensed rehabber in your area and get the bird to them.
Ravens must be fed like every hour or so.
I must admit that would be one really interesting bird to keep.

Re: Xeike's new Baby!
I got a license in process to keep it. :P I am licensed to rehab wildlife(Right now corvids, raccoons, squirrels, and jays)
And yes his flight feathers are partially opened, not enough that he's old enough to be learning to fly. And man does this little bugger like me.
He sits on my fist as long as I'll let him stay there, has conversations with me, and like clockwork every 45 minutes wants to be fed again. I've got plans drawn up for a big cage for him, but he'll not be spending much time in it. My dog loves him, it's so adorable, I'll have to take pics soon.
I strongly doubt the parents were looking for him; he was in the middle of a -very- busy road just sitting there without a mind to actually move. We've decided to name him Morticai, with Cai being his nickname(I voted for Jeremy though, bonus points for whoever catches the reference)

Re: Xeike's new Baby!
My boyfriends boss had one, It was a male, and he got it at about the same age range. Once it hit sexual maturity it "freaked out" pooping EVERYWHERE, and trying to kill him..
Good luck? Hahah, I look foreward to seeing pics.

I am kindof partial to Morti being his nickname.
Although if I had a Raven, his name would be Quoth.

Re: Xeike's new Baby!
lol! I can understand that. I dunno, he looks like a Jeremy to me, what with all the time he spends bumping my necklace charms to and fro.
But hubby insisted on Morticai, and he really doesn't look like a Morti(Sorry mort). Cai better fits his personality thus far.
He should have a sexual maturity freakout; I'm probably going to have him chemically sterilized if I can find a vet who feels like doing it. But so far, so good. I'm going to get some very thin deerskin and make my own glove for holding him, because even after having his nails trimmed he still makes holes in me trying to hang on. lol
