Re: pics of cocka........
I *used to* have an umbrella cockatoo!
His name was Sunny and I had him for about 8 years before I got married and had to give him up for adoption. Thank goodness for Usenet because I was able to place him in a perfect home despite being geographically distant.
He now lives in Atlanta Georgia with a family who is so into birds they have an aviary in their home! They renamed him Snowflake and he is doing well...he's got to be about 21 years old now
Umby's are such great companion birds! A bit vocal when bored (which is why I had a 'husband vs. bird' situation) but sweet as honey and fun to play around with.
Birds are my first and greatest love. Wish I could have them ... I would be the crazy old bird lady in my town

Re: pics of cocka........
I think that your biggest worries should be
1) Noise (you know about that!)
2) Time .... these birds NEED your time and attention every day. They are extremely demanding in this way.
3) Dust ... their dust gets everwhere, making a bit more of a mess in your home than birds from wet climates.
What is it about the Umby that makes them your favorite? Just curious (I love them too!)

Re: pics of cocka........
well,
1. they look awesome
2. they seem to have great personalities.
3. from what ive read they love to be pet and arent too aggressive if worked with
in all seriousness, i dont mind the noise, at the petland near me there is an amazon that goes on for about 30 minutes everymorning. he wont shut up. if u say his name he will be quiet for a few seconds but thats all. i dont mind the dust. i can dust and vacuum etc. and i have plenty of time on my hands LETS SEE SOME PICS PPL!

Re: pics of cocka........
You have made me take a trip down memory lane
our Sunday morning routine was to read the paper together on the floor.
The sections I had not read yet I would make into 'tents' on the floor and he would play hide and seek in them. Then as I read each section I would lay the sheets out and he would tear them all into strips and pile them up. Newspaper was always a big favorite for him! He would see me bring it in the house and get all feisty So cute!

Re: pics of cocka........
My story is simular to fish mommy's
I had a female Goffin Cockatoo for several years and gave her up for adoption to a wounderful family when I got married. My wife was very alergic to the white (waxy) dust from her feathers. I miss her The vet said that she was the nicest goffin they had ever seen!
I taught her to play dead - I would lay her on her back in my hand and shoot her with my other hand and she would flop her head over.
She used to play Fetch with a plastic bottle top, Peak-a-Boo behind her wing, Tug-o-War, Shake hands, Fly to her cage on command, talk over 45 words and her best trick I taught her was to go potty on command. This was to prevent her from going on me, the floor and the furniture...I would simply hold her over newspaper and ....tell her to "go potty" she would and then we were fine for an hour or so to play or sit and watch TV.
I'll look for some pics but I will have to scan them in.
