Poor Jad
Jad is our Jenday Conure. He's a male bird that once belonged to Megan's brother, was passed to Megan and he's attached to me and hates everyone else but me. As far as I know, I'm the only one that can handle him without bloodshed. Anyway, for the past week or so, Jad has been spending a lot of time laying on the bottom of his cage. I thought he was dead the other day. But when I reached in to pull his carcass out, he sprang to life and started making racket again. What the heck is up with this bird? When I get him off the bottom of the cage, he acts fine. He's not sick..
He's freaking NESTING! Anything we put in his cage, he destroys asap. So I never thought anything about the current shredded rope perch on the bottom or the beads from his mangled toy...but he piles the beads up now and rolls them up against the shredded rope perch and lays on them. We are all looking forward to seeing what he hatches lol

Heck no! One conure is more than plenty! We have 4 other birds that between the 4 of them, don't make up for 1/10th if that the noise he produces.

Maybe he wouldn't make so much noise if he had a girlfriend. He is probably calling for his mate!

I was wondering that myself. Maybe Jad is "Jade".

Aww, the poor sweetie. lol You sure he's a he?
Have you tried putting some twigs or one of those pre-made bird nests you can get from the petstore and put in there to see what he does with it?
I'd be so freaked if my bird started acting like that.. lol has he done this before?
I'm lucky my patagonian conure doesn't hate everybody else except me. She likes me and she's generally okay with women but she's kinda spooked of men for whatever reason... lol And she hates dogs but not cats... oh and she also doesn't like looking at roaches either..(the feeders i keep in a container) lmao

Ya my grand parents have a female cockatoo(spelling?) that does that every once in a while. She actually lays an egg and sits on it and stuff until it breaks. She rolls it around a lot and eventually it breaks but until then she won't let anyone touch it. After that though she wants nothing to do with it. She moves her newspaper around and makes a nest too. It's actually kinda funny to watch her roll it around.

I had a love bird (well it was my wife's). His name was Tico. Then one day Tico started laying eggs. LOL. She had no mate in there with her, so they were infertile, but she never gave up on them haha and yes, she got biting mad when we got near her while she was incubating.
All I have now as far as birds is a blue and Gold Macaw... OMG loud!!!. anyone want him??? j/k He actually belongs to my boss, so I will return him as soon as I am ready to move to Asheville in a couple months.

Jad was surgically sexed. He's a male. He also has that typical male attitude. Females are much quieter than the boisterous males are. It's not unusual for both sexes to mind the eggs. Usually though, there are really eggs when they do this lol. I'm going to have to take them away so he will go back to perching.

We had a sun conure.. back in the day.. definitely /one/ of the noisiest birds I have ever owned.
I noticed him hanging around the bottom of the cage quite a bit, he started to sleep down there... I started putting washcloths in so that he had something sleep on that was a bit softer than the metal at the bottom.
He /never/ slept on it. He always pulled it over him like a blanket or something.. it was cute..

Poor little guy. Get him a whole lot of stuff he can rip up and make a great big nest if that is what he wants to do. That way he can harmlessly act out his wildest fantasies.
