Double-crested Cormorant
The Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) is a fish-eating bird, that needs to dry its wings after swimming since it lacks the waterproof oil that most waterbirds produce to protect their feathers.

Gorgeous!
I see small to huge flocks of those come and spend a week or so here cruising the Monongahela River about every fall/winter.... I've never gotten a real good close up view of one but I know they're cormorants. Not sure what kind, they sure look alot like that fellow, though.

These guys are such characters! There's a nice population of them here on LI. Whenever I go fishing at the lake near my house, I see 'em. They sit so low in the water because of the aforementioned lack of waterproofing oil, they look like they're about to sink, it's hilarious. They'll be frantically paddling along, all of a sudden they'll dart under water and resurface after sometime quite a distance from where they went under, fish in mouth. Cool birds and great photos
Edit-They might not be of the double crested type, but they're definitely cormorants!
