rugs and towels in front of and around cages do wonders for making cleaning around the cage easy. I used to have a rainbow lory many years ago...nectar eating birds are nasty...he would jump over to the back of the cage and squirt liquid poop at the wall...so I had to plexiglass the wall behind his cage. lol

>>I cant find any sites that tell me how noisy they are,do they tend to be a very loud bird?
>>
I asked my roommate about the two at the store and she says they are loud in the morning and evening which is common for birds. I have over 20 birds in my house and I sleep right through their vocalization period in the morning. Another thing to think about is not all birds scream. I have a few birds that all they do is talk. No screaming, no squawking, just talking or imitating sounds from around the house, like the microwave or the cat. Sometimes when it gets too loud in the house the African Grey will yell "Hey! Knock it off!" or "Quiet." It's really funny when he's the one making the noise and he yells Knock it off at himself. Oh yeah....seed mess. A lot of cages have an "apron" around the base that will catch a lot of the stuff they throw. Another thing that will help keep the mess down is an enclosed crock. It just has a hole in the front for them to stick their heads in to eat. My roommate and my mom both have to use those for their Cockatoo's because they really like to throw their seed around.

You might consider getting an African Grey. They are quiet and are usually good talkers, or maybe a Dusky Headed Conure. They are also quiet and they are very affectionate, although it is a small bird. Other small birds you might look into are Green Cheek Conures, probably Maroon Belly Conures, any Poicephalus (Meyers, Senegal, Red Bellied, & Jardines parrots are the most common) Eclectus are a bigger bird but my roommate says they are usually quiet. I don't really like Eclectus. They don't seem that friendly to me, especially the Hens. Our Red Lored Amazon is quiet. I don't know if that's the norm for them. You might also think about Mini Macaws like Hahns or a Noble which are very similar or maybe an Illigers or Yellow Collared which are a bit bigger than the Hahns and Nobles. And finally there are Parrotlets. They are really big birds trapped in a little body. Lots of personality, lots of attitude. Our female is really sweet sometimes and somtimes she's a little terror. They don't know the meaning of fear. One of my friends had one that attacked her B&G Macaw. Sadly the Macaw won that fight and the Parrotlet got it's neck snapped and it died. Oh yeah... Cockatiels. And I guess that's it.
