New Cockatiel and a couple questions.
Well Wedneday night I went to my monthly herp meeting. I had vowed not to bring home another snake. I even kept my word (kinda) They had received this little guy from the local police that they somehow got. He kinda slipped through the cracks on the nights announcements for adoptions, so needless to say he came home with me. We called him Chico (yeah I know original) He's a real nice bird. Loves getting his head petted. If he doesn't get enough petting he nips and puts his head back down for more petting.lol ok he needs some work.
His wings arent clipped, so he gets limited time out of the cage. Specially since my kids seem to have been born in a barn, cuz they leave doors open all the time. Plus I'm afraid he might fly into a ceiling fan.
Right now I'm feeding him seed, and Exact a nutrient pellet. I cut up some greens. I will offer fruit too, but havent gotten to the store yet.
A question i have is , is the dehydrated fruits good for him? Just want to make sure before i offer it to him.

Too much fruit will give him runny poo. I feed our cockatiels rainbow pellets and rowdy bush pellets. I add a little seed now and then but not too often because they will pick the seeds out and leave the pellets if they have a steady supply.... All the nutrients he needs are in the pellets. I do also give them sprigs of millet once a week and they pick and gnaw on that for a few days as well.

Cool. is the dehydrated stuff ok as an occasional treat? or like a training aide? or only use real fruit? I'll definately keep the fruit to a minimum, don't need him shooting the walls with poop.

pied tiels arent uncommon, so it doesnt suprise me that youve seen them before yeah, you can buy dried fruits from the petstore and use them as a treat. and, you can use real fruit. but not alot.. you might want to invest in a skirt for your cage..if you dont want seed and poop everywhere good luck with your new friend though ed. once he/she settles in i think he will warm up quite nicely
