A deal I couldn't refuse
I have wanted a beardie, and Saturday I finally got one! Whoohoo! The place that I always buy our feeders from had an adult male, cage and all for $160. I'd told the lady the week before that I was interested, but then car probs. popped up, so I had to reneg. So I went in Saturday, she put her arm around me and said take him home! She's letting me make payments, (anything over $5 a week) until I own him. I was so happy, I wanted to cry. Gold Star to Benita at Critters in Wooster, Ohio!
BTW, how difficult is it to start him on pellets at his age? He's 2. Not necessarily as a staple food, just for some variety? He seems to be a picky eater, so far. And is there anything specific that Beardies just LOVE? I love this guy already, but can't decide what to call him. I want to make him so happy.
sorry for the long post.

Beardies like alot of different things, I have found they love carrots, and greens, such as collard greens. They also love crickets and if he is big enough a pinky mouse also. Good luck

adding or changing to their diet at this age is a bit difficult. give him a variety of veggies, you will just have to experiement with what he likes, and what he doesnt. my bearides are 3-5 years old, and over the two years ive had them i have actually gotton them to eat more things than what they did when i first got them, as they would never touch it before, now they love squash. if you want to try something new, just put it in a dish in their cage, and leave it for a bit. sometimes if i mist thier food, they take more interest. just be patient, it may take a while
good luck with your new friend

My Beardies go absolutely insane over Wood Roaches. They are fairly large and dont fly. Mine actually launch themselves across their cages to catch them. I also feed dark greens and carrots. I also did the superworms for them, but didnt get that big of a response from them, i guess they dont move fast enough to catch their eye enough to get them excited. Crickets do well too.
Havent done the strawberries or squash idea yet. But i hear it works well.
I would stay away from pellets, they really dont have the proper nutrition for your beardie.

I feel a pelleted diet is great for beardies if they take it...most people I know use reptical and soak the pellets in warm water to moisten it. If you read the label it has a great balance of nutrients. It does not take the place of fresh greens and fruit, but it will be a wonderful addition to the diet.
Gimley loves Mesc greens and crickets. To be honest she loves everything She has some appetite! I have to say, so far her favorite is tomato horn worms....she is never too full for that.
What color is your new beardy? Congrats! They are wonderful lizards!

O.k., Toker, no pics., someone in my house screwed up my camera program (not the boyfriend, never him)
I've tried carrots everyday, he just looks at me funny. He likes all the dark greens, and romaine, and big mealworms. He's hilarious with those. Not much interest in crickets, but I tried those out of his tank, cause his substrate is weird, and I was worried. I guess you just treat it like a baby, and keep trying till you figure it out, huh?
Savanah, how do I give the squash? I shredded the carrots, do the same thing? Luckily I love veggies, if he won't eat what I buy I will.
Ed_r, what's a wood roach? Any relation to a hissing cockroach?
Nicloe, mine looks much like that, maybe a little lighter, with orange right under his eyes. His neck has only gotten that dark once tho, it faded back quickly.

what kind of substrate are you using? you can chop them into small pieces, or shred them. whichever is easier.
