hey all,
i just got a new job at a local pet store and need some insight on what to feed baby beardies. i found a book at the store and it was saying that they like a insect/plant diet. and to my knowledge they've been feeding them (these are little little hatchlings) solely on pinhead crickets. i wrote a note saying to add romane lettuce, green beans, f/t mixed veges, and lots of greens (mustard, turnip, beets, etc). there anything else i need to know about baby beardies to keep them alive and healthy so someone will take them away?
oh and one of them that we just got from the breeder is very lethargic, ignores the crickets, and his eyes are almost completely closed. and one of the employees said it was laying on its back for a while. any ideas of what's going on? thanx!

hmmm I don't really recommend lettuce, but mustard greens and kale are great!
turnip and beet greens work well too!
babies won't always accept greens, so if they'll only take crickets for the time being, don't fret.
about the lethargic one..seperate him immediatley!
it almost sounds like crypto...but I could be wrong. If his eyes are swollen shut it could also be MBD or lack of carotene...it just all depends. Keep me posted as to how they're doing!

Okay.. i know this is going to sound grouse.. but I can sometimes fool my baby BD's to eat greens by pulling the legs off of the pin head crickets.. yes.. it takes time which a petstore does not like to take. But what i do. Is chop up the greens very small, and put in a bowl with some pin heads and then mix them together and put them on a plate. While they are trying to get the pin heads, they accidently get the greens.
I have yet to find many baby BD's that will take greens readily. Good Luck though.

I'm not a beardie guy, never had one, but I have heard with beardies that if they get too big of crickets it is very detremental. pinheads sound good though, just keep em on those till they get bigger. let me know if I'm wrong, beardie experts! -Juggalo

Juggalo, you're absolutely right!
it's very important that the prey/food items being offerend aren't too big..

GREAT Drax! I also have been told by someone that if ya leave the pinheads in with the baby beardies there is a chance that the criks may "prey" upon the beardie...especially the eyes.
