Are reptile UV lights and plant UV lights the same? If not what is the difference? I just got a bearded dragon and was wondering if the kind of UV light mattered?

Thanks,

J

Thwere is a small difference in the plant vs. animal uv lamps, plants needing full spectrum in most cases and animals , depending , will need either full, or varying amounts of uva or b.

The beardies need more UVB in their lighting needs with natural sunlight being the best (free also).

Shaggy
Hey we hope you are enjoying the little guy. It seemed your little girl fell in love with them. I should have went into this a little more sunday but I was half asleep. LOL Anyway about the lighting.. I know a few people who use the plant bulbs but I would recommend the Reptisun 5.0 reptile bulbs. If you can provide 30-40 min of direct sunlight 2-3 times a week you can use just plain old incandescent light. Make sure the sunlight is direct and not shining through glass which filters out UVB that is vital to the health of your dragon. Plus it could heat up the aquarium to temps that can kill. Hope this helps.

Cool, thanks, I was wondering if it needed it all the time or what. But he seems to be doing pretty good. He seems to like his new home. We love watching him snarf down a bunch of crickets. Thanks again,

J
