She's Pregnant!!!!!!!! Yay!! & Now We Wait!
Hey guys, i just wanted to let you know, My Beardie Who i've had and loved for 3 1/2 years now, is finally PREGNANT!! it was pretty much a shock to me, since my boyfriend told me , she was a BOY! ha ha ...guess again ...
Tonight i just took her for a bath like i always do, cuz she was coved in sand...and i just had my hand underneith her and BANG! i freaked out... told my boyfriend she was lumpy! haha... he knew what it was tho...EGGS!
So i've taken our Male Zeke away...and she is now starting to digg.. Who would of thought... this is a very big Shock & Surprize for me!
If anyone has some tips for me , i'd love to hear them!!!! I have my incubator all set up and its temps are about 85ish?!? i don't have eggs yet....this is just a test for the temps!
But now we play the Waiting Game! he he ... I'm sooo excited, i can't sleep! This is my VERY FIRST Clutch.....

Re: She's Pregnant!!!!!!!! Yay!! & Now We Wait!
congrats..i believe a 50/50 mix of topsoil and sand is good for a little burrial site...fill up a rubbermaid container and put it in her tank for a few hours a day and that should be good for her to dig in..

Congrats!! I hope everything goes well, but let me tell you something that I was told awhile back. Eggs can be a tricky thing and most breeder will lose their first clutch do to something done wrong. If that happens, it is a learning experience for the next one. Just do your best, that is all you can do. Good luck and you'll do great! now go play that waiting game, lol.

Re: She's Pregnant!!!!!!!! Yay!! & Now We Wait!
Congrats. I have to agree with Hartsock though. We bought our beardies as two females, I came home one day and found them doing the deed (sorta strange for two females!!!) but the first clutch was very bad and the eggs did not survive.
It was my fault, I did not have the incubator set up properly. I felt terrible but it is a learning curve and even the best make mistakes. My female has recently laid her second clutch and I'm a bit more confident with these. Out of 22 eggs there were two duds but the rest look fine and there are two beauties there that I can't wait to see hatch. In about 5 weeks I'll be stocking up on the baby crickets!!!

Re: She's Pregnant!!!!!!!! Yay!! & Now We Wait!
I lost every clutch of leopard gecko eggs so far and that is like 4. I have 22 eggs in the incubator from my beardy. They all look great and should hatch in mid june. It took me awhile to get the hang of my incubator but now I have it down. Good luck I hope they all hatch.

And moisten it a little.
Also as others have pointed out don't let a failure discourage, you but get prepped now. Get the incubator set up right away and work with it till you have the temps you desire stable. Get your vermiculite ready also. I know when I find the eggs in the laying chambers I am always flustered and running around like an idiot even though I have stuff ready.
My wife says the excitement makes me suddenly stupid.

All I can say to this is:
No matter what we do in our lives, we are all bound to do some small stupid mistake that will impact the next generation.
All though I have not nor have I wanted to try to breed anything besides rats as feeders.
you must always keep on top of things. When you get your temps and humidity right for a week, tear it down and redo it then you can get more pratice and more patience by doing it again, and again.
Once you get it down pat, Then do it again.
