non adhesive shelf liner
when i get spike a bigger tank in a couple months, im probably gonnaget the shelf liner instead of spending like 60 bucks or morefor sand(unless i buy playsand) but ihave some questions. with shelf liner, does it absorb heat well? my beardie has been on sand for his entire life and he still young, only like 3-4 months old, i know sand is bad for babys but i use the reptilite calcisand and i have yet to see a problem. but will spike get depressed from having no sand to play in? sand is all he knows. also, can i use a UTH with shelfliner or should i put repticarpet under the liner so spike doesnt burn his belly. and to clean feces and what not i can use a wet paper towel and the shelf liner is machine washable i think so i can throw it in the dishwasher every month. do u guys have any tips or answers to my questions? if so, they will be greatly appreciated.

i had another idea after i posted this, what if i put like a 3 inch high wood divider and just put sand on his basking spot. im having some doubts about this but my beardie loves sand soo much. i would keep him on it but i dont want him to get impacted. so is the sand just on the basking spot a good idea or no. now that i think of it, its sounds kinda dumb. alos any tips or answers to my questions about shelf liner would be appreciated

I use playsand for my beardies, it works great.
I picked up a 50 pound bag at home depot for about 4.99, then when i got home i sifted it to make it a really fine grain. It works great and the dragons love it.

spike, you can also use the shelf liner with a piece of broken tile depending on the size of the cage to absorb the heat. I have done this and still do on some cages.

Yes, i forgot spike was still young sorry.
But for future refrence, yes straining it with a screen is the same as sifting it to make it a finer grain.

will spike get depressed if he doesnt have any sand? and can i use a UTH with shelf liner so it can get warmer. i dont want tile because in the winter my house is kept at 65F and if he sleeps on the tile he'llget cold. i know im being redundant but if will the shelf liner hold heat? im gonna end up using like a 100w or 150w tight beam basking bulb. and please answer the question about the UTH. if i put repticarpet under the liner will that be better instead of bare line?

Spike won't get depressed without sand don't worry. For young beardies, newspaper, paper towels, butcher paper or reptile carpet.
