My baby Beardie is going on about 4 months now I believe. About 5-6" total lenght. When is it ok to give him sand as substrate? I heard that young beardies can get impacted from the sand. And if it is ok to use sand, what kind? Calcisand(could get quite expensive) or I hear people use regular play sand. The beardie eats all his meals out of a bowl, and is misted for his water(no bowl for water).
Any Suggestions?

Mine are just slightly younger but i'm keeping them on kitchen towel for now 'cos

1. They poo everywhere and all the time an kitchen paper is easy to keep clean
2. They try eat EVERYTHING. (so far stones, a bit of plastic, toe nail clipping, the words on the front of a book, shoe lace, tassel on a throw, roll of sellotape and the #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& kitchen paper! )

I'm gonna move them on to normal sand at about six months old 'cos I think they will be able to cope with it then. I'd use calci sand now but it would cost too much to cover a 4ft viv properly. If you feel he'll be ok, use the play sand but he may be still a little small for it.

u really got to watch out what u put them on! they can get inpacted very easily from there substrate, i would say at least 10 inches before u can put him/her on sand, and make sure its really fine sand, and not the sand that has sharp edges on it, washed playsand works pretty well,
