Why does my female Beardie bob her head up and down when looking at herself in the mirror?

I second that you sure it is a female? Post some pictures of the head and vent area and I can probally tell. I have heard of some proven females head bobbing and they even had a black beard, but that is not the norm.

I think it's not only a dominance/submission thing, but it's also for saying "hey, I'm a beardie" to other animals, can't remember where i read that. and i thought it was pretty normal for females to darken their beard when threatened. they don't go anywhere near as black as males, but there is a good bit of darkening. my female has done it often.

At my school we had a beardie... and when we got another baby one, in a seperate cage, The grown beardies beard became dark, and he bobbed his head all the time... Teacher said it was something to do with the other beardie coming into his territory....

I wouldnt worry about it being a boy unless the beard get JET BLACK.
my old female used to bob her head and wave her hand really confusing me as well...but her beard never got JET BLACK like my male.
i think the bobbing is not a definite MALE characteristic as much as the black beard is.
i agree...perhaps the bobbing means 'i am a beardie'...either way i think it pretty typical

I think she is a female. Her beard does get black. We do not plan on breeding her so male or female, she is a girl because I say so. lol. Thank you.
