When we got our beardie, he was just as calm as can be. We could hold it, or just hang it our shirt, and it would sit right there. Now, when he's handled, he wants to take off in any direction possible. He won't sit still for anything. Anyone know what might have brought about this way it now is? Thanks.

Is it a boy or girl? When did you get it? How big is the tank?

I got it about a month or so ago...not sure on the sex, b/c I haven't really worried about checking...he's about 16-18", caged in a 20L at the moment...hide, basking log, kept on repti-carpet, waterbowl, foodbowl...fed daily greens, carrots, vitamins...and about 2-4 mealworms a day...Day temps are about 85-90h/75-80cool during the day. Let's see, does that cover everything?
(just realized I've hit 100 posts! Sorry, just had to mention that...)

Ok the thing is Some times females when they have a belly full of eggs will act like that. You said you got him a month ago. That is plenty of time for eggs to grow. Bfore you got him she/he could of been near a male. Or if she is a he Boys can act like that when mateing time is here. Or a male could of smalt a female. Some times Males just don't wont to be pick up.

Phew! Lots of reasons for this behavior...Well, I'm not sure about the eggs, but I know that it was kept with at least one other beardie. I know that the skiddish nature has just started up in the last week or two. As far as smelling another female...that's impossible. There isn't another beardie within about 20 miles of this place, and I haven't handled one. Is there any way to tell if it might be baring eggs, or if it's a male that just has taken a disliking to being handled?

Ok I had 3 beardie before I got rid of them. A male can have all types of disliks. Or if it is a female & has eggs well she will dig & bury them. Do you have other beding in the tank than repti-carpet?

No, just the carpet...I have some aspen that I use for my brb that I can put in there....
Would the males dislikes just show up out of the blue? B/c, like I said, it used to love to be handled...now just seems like it hates it

Well you should put some thing like aspen or sand in. Sand will do best. Some times males will chang just like that. My male was nice at first than 2 months later he was not a good boy. One of my females changed because she had eggs.

Thanks so much for the help...any other opinions, please post. I'm new to the beardies and this is throwing me for a loop. Now I guess I need to verse myself on beardie hatchlings, just incase mine is bearing...

Ok, just a preemptive question...any recommendations on incubators? I just want to know what I'll need. I've changed her substrate (and when I say her, I home sexed it by looking under the tail, and it is almost undeniably a female)...so I guess the only thing is to wait and see, and if she does lay, then take measures...
