Help ?s about my beardie lighting..
I am getting a 3 month old beardie soon.. and i need to know if this tri-lamp will work good enough? It is also around 30°F around with snow; I live in Philadelphia. So i have 1 100w regualar bulb which im hoping i could use for basking, and i also have a black night light 75w. I only have 1 bulb in socket that fits 2 lights. Which the side where the right side of my tank where the black light is, will be the cool area in the day time..
Reptile Tri-Light (which is the lamp i am using)

Please Post any special suggestions you guys have about this or other things that could help me keep my beardie healthy.

Here's part of a post from NicoleRussel...."the self ballasted floods are onsale at REPTILE DRECT.com for under $40 with free shipping. These bulbs show hardly ANY decay. When I spoke with an admin recently at RD he told me they can't keep these bulbs on the shelf. The other companies are now trying to mimick them. It's all good because if all the other bulbs are improved as a result I'm happy--
this is probably more then you wanted to read LOL
I go off with UVB...sorry.

She does alot of research on lights and what's good and not. I'd say search alot of her posts. The beardie is gonna need uvb lights and since your weather is like ours it's gonna be awhile till you can get some natural light for em. Right now we're using a ceramic heater and a self ballasted uvb light during the day cycle.
since you're from Philly I figure you might be of the same mind as me.......GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!

hey you beat me to the punch
Yeah you need UVB---especially for beardies. So invest in a MVB asap...otherwise, color, appetite and overall health will decline and he will end up very ill or dead.
Also it depends on which caging you use. What size is the cage and what type?

No, we're not. We have the heat projector from Mac Industries. It's way safer than a ceramic heat emitter and runs about $25.

Rob, we have the heat projector and the external ballast light. Better in the long run.

Thank You for response, i dont want to really spend alot on money on a light since i did already with the one's I have from before. Is it possible i could use a coil light in the day time then i use the heat emitter at night if i bought that? Or could i use the day light i have now or no? and should i use to different clamp lights or could i use the tri-light (the lamp i posted in 1st post). haha and ya GO EAGLES!

It is a 20g aquarium for right now, untill its warm enough to go outside and build a bigger one. But it will be able to have fun in a 20min for a month or so

Trust me you really need a good UVB bulb--you can skimp on many things with beardies for a short POT but not UVB. Even an FTube would be better then a neodynium.
Is it that you want to use the current fixture you have or the current bulb?

I would of liked to use both to save money, but i need whats best for lizards. So i am going to buy a UVB light tomorrow. I was wondering that if i can make a 15" ub light (good size right? or bigger?) fit into my fixture i could use that instead of buying a whole new fixture for that light? And also you have to use a regullar light bulb to to give heat, and if i could fit the bulb in that fixture should i do it? or should i use my clamp i have? How many hours do keep each on and when do u turn each on/off? Sould I use a night light, since it is pretty cold in my area, sine its about 10° outside. Also any recomendations for this?
I was thinking of buying the stuff now with the money I have, so i could save up to get the lizard but already have things? or should I wait to buy it all once? | |
