What cage size to start with for a neonate and what size to upgrade to for an adult?
Talk about right to the point.
Thanks a bunch.
Oh, Anyone selling a nice juvi one of these? The ones at the stores are mean as heck.

A 10 gallon should do the trick for at least the first year and a half for a neonate ATB. Eventually you will probably want to upgrade to a 30 gallon tall or something around that size. ATB's usually take around five-six years to reach their full adult size. I may be wrong about that but I seem to remember that they are slow growing boas. ATB's are also infamous for their nippy demeanor. I have one that bites me EVERY time I take him out. You have to be ready to deal with that should you decide to get one! Some of us think it is one of their more charming qualities (until they grow up) LOL
Get ahold of Julius...I think that he may have one left from the clutch that his female had on Christmas day!
Good luck!

I knew they were nippy but the ones at the store by me are REALLY nippy. The guy won't even take them out of the tank. They just strike over and over again. Like little friggin machine guns. Snap, snap , snap. He tried a hook and it snapped at that. These just seem TOO nippy. If the people working there won't touch them, I am worried about how to move them if I need to clean the cage.
I have a empty plastic arboreal cage(yes, I have junk all over)sitting on a shelf by my fish tank. It is 12x12x16. This should work for a while right?

Is it a BARRS tank? I have one he made for me with the same dimensions. That tank should be fine for them during the first year. An adult needs around a 2' square, but the bigger the better.

Nope, not a BARRS cage.
It is a white plastic with a clear acrylic hinged door and a removable screen top. It only cost me $35 so I couldn't pass it up.
BTW, Tabitha is a very nice looking snake.

I start my baby amazons in a 10 gallon tipped on its side. And I keep my adults in 50 or 30 gallon 'high' aquariums that were donated to me. Kind of a pain to clean - but they work very well otherwise. I built a 30 gallon 'high' sized enclosure out of melamine & plywood, but it didn't take the humidity levels very well so I moved my ammie out of it. Really, I think alot of people overdo it with ammie cages and set them up in something like an emerald would be in, which is really not necessary - nor is it preferrable. My ammies spend quite a bit of time going back and forth between the ground and their branches... as long as you have something that lets them get 6" or so off the ground, I think they'd be more than happy with that.

It's from HerpCages. Oops, my mistake. BARRS is HerpsCages. They redesigned their line of cages and I got lucky. Was able to pick one up dirt cheap. It has a slot on the bottom that holds a heat pad/tape, the door is routered in so no gaps, and the screen top can be removed. All in all I was very impressed with the quality for the price. It's a sharp looking little cage.

Hey Steve,
i keep my ATB in a 8 gallon tall (16" long X 12" high X 8" deep) that i knocked out the front and made a plexiglass door so i can easily dodge the nips. and that'll keep him for about a year. i thought i needed the door but he hasn't bitten me yet when i go to get him out, but once he's out and i move my hand in front of his face he'll lunge out.
Julius knows a lot about arboreals and was saying that they like smaller spaces as opposed to larger ones. He keeps his adults in 30 gallon tall tanks and they just sit all day curled up on a branch. hehe i timed it right so that when my two carpets out grows their 10 gallons it'll be just about time to move the ATB into a ten and then into the 30 after my BCI out grows that.
